Yeah, but it's a matter of degree. There's no place in Alpharetta or Roswell where I'd feel uncomftable walking or driving around, but there are a few areas in each that have a concentration of lower-rent apartments and such, with the usual problems that entails. Even those are nothing like the worst areas in the city of Atlanta, or even some parts of DeKalb, Gwinnett, or Clayton Counties. But someone looking to move from California and buy a house is highly unlikely to end up there by accident or anything.

Thank you ALL for your input it was greatly appreciated, I am coming from Southern Cali - Orange County. My main concern is for my kids to make sure they are safe. I've been reading the postings on Alpharetta, John's Creek, Suwanee, etc and didn't know if there were little spots to beware of. Again, thank you!!

I live near Dacula in the Hamilton Mills area. I think you would be doing a disservice if you didn't look there too. I like Suwanee better than Alpharetta personally. I would look into Buford & Dacula (the newer parts which also border the Gwinnett side of Auburn). The Mill Creek School district is pretty good too. Try looking off exit 120 & 126 on I-85 (Hamilton Mills/Chateau Elan area).

Oh, on Dacula, make sure you look around, there are pockets here and there that aren't as nice. They are not unsafe, but older homes...older like 50+ years and not well maintained. Stick to the newer areas & developments.

I moved in March and it was hard to know until you been here a while..I would recommend Suwanee...I live outskirts of Duluth and Lawrenceville. It is not bad, I would not recommend downtown Duluth area....I shop and get massages in Suwanee so I would recommend that good luck! I know how it is!
