Walmart is good for Chamblee and the surrounding area--LOL--all the way to Buckhead. (When you come to Atlanta--be sure to drive around Peachtree Rd/Lenox/Dunwoody--the southern part of Chamblee --sometimes now called 'Lenox'--even parts of Buford Hwy are called 'Lenox'--and I believe that is what is going to happen. Chamblee will one day be a very good place to live

There's a Target on Peachtree St across from Phipps.

There is development along Howell Mill Rd--new shopping center with Office Depot, T.J. Maxx, PetSmart ---etc

For decades this was an industrial area--and the Humane Society is located there.

This type of change affects traffic.

You need to go to boortz.com--libertarian talk show personality---WSB 750 AM--'Economic Growth'--how it is accomplished is his focus.

Default here is article on that store

The city of Chamblee’s first Wal-Mart Supercenter will on Monday, Jan. 22 with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. Several local elected officials and community leaders are expected to attend. The store is located at 1871 Chamblee-Tucker Road.

As the 3rd store inside the Perimeter, the new 193,000-square-foot Supercenter serves as the anchor for a new shopping center and boasts a non-traditional Wal-Mart layout and the industrial design of District buildings. The store represents another “urban design setting” for Wal-Mart. The store is off the street level with an underground parking deck as well as elevators and escalators inside. Store operating hours will be 6 a.m. until midnight, seven days a weekThe store’s interior and merchandise mix is designed to tailor to the Chamblee’s international community—there will be English and Spanish language signage throughout the store’s interior.

And 200 feet of product offerings will feature Hispanic, Caribbean, Asian, European and kosher products. In addition, the new store boasts a selection of more than 500 organic food items and an 82-foot seafood counter with fresh seafood -- one of the largest in the entire company. It will also house a Subway restaurant, and will have 31 full service and eight express lanes. The store is anticipated to have more than 385 jobs, while more than 5,500 applications were received. Wal-Mart officials say the new store will have the latest in-store designs and features, including wider aisles, new home trends displays, new in-store signage and concrete and hardwood laminate floors throughout. In addition, customers will find new merchandise in the expanded electronics department showcasing the latest in computers, iPods and hi-definition televisions, and new brands in apparel.

In addition, there is English and Spanish language signage throughout the store’s interior. Wal-Mart also tailored the merchandise mix for its anticipated shoppers with an area that covers nearly 200 feet of product offerings that feature Hispanic, Caribbean, Asian, European and kosher products. In addition, the new store boasts a selection of more than 500 organic food items and an 82-foot seafood counter with fresh seafood -- one of the largest in the entire company. i lived in that area for 40 years.
i would live as close as possible to your job as a minor accident can cause an hour delay, and try to sign a 6 month lease till you see what's going on.
There are some very nice apts next to perimiter mall in the 800-900 range, it is within walking distance to tons of restaurants/stores etc.
Which side of the junction are you working in?

I don't know what the junction is but I can tell you that I am working off of brandywine rd. It is just inside the perimeter and just south of I 85. I have been in contact with promove...what do you think about them?

I don't have any experience with Promove, sorry.

Did you visit Atlanta as planned? If so, what did you see and what do you think? Have you found a place to rent?

If not, I might be able to suggest an affordable apartment for you (thanks to Smolimo), that will allow you to keep your dog - no weight limit as long as the breed is approved. Looks as if there are several apartments available including some 2 BRs in the $900s per month. There is a public park across the street, too. The Ashford is inside the Perimeter just south of Dunwoody and not a bad commute at all to your future job.

Between errands tomorrow, I'm planning to drive by the Ashford apartments and check out the neighborhood. (So if you never see me posting here again, then maybe you and Smolimo should not plan on moving there.)

I think you are getting some good advice to look in the Chamblee/Doraville ares. There is a nice neighborhood called Northwoods that you might look at. It is east of Buford HWY inside 285. Find a Realtor who works over in that area and let them help you.

i looked up brandywine road and it says it is in/near the koger office park. I went to mercer university right behind there, and there are some very nice apts across from mercer. That would be a great choice. I think they are called "post apartments". I would be sure to stay on the brandywine side of I85 cause there is crime etc across the freeway in the chamblee/doraville side.
