Commuting from Holly Springs / Harmony on the Lakes to Downtown Atlanta...?
Does anyone commute from the Holly Springs area, specifically Harmony on the Lakes to downtown Atlanta? I may be relocating to the area and we're considering Harmony on the Lakes. The only drawback seems to be the commute...just wondering how bad it would really be...

some people do it.
I certainly wouldn't.
It varies so much, but I would say if you leave downtown atlanta at 5-5:15pm you won't be home until somewhere between 6:15-7:00pm

That's a lovely little community, but the commute will be a pain! You are several miles from 575 and it will probably take a while just to get there on two lane roads. I get on 575 further south in Kennesaw, and traffic is very heavy for a long way behind me, and that's at about 6:15-6:30 AM. And anytime after 3-3:30 PM is going to be bad also. Plan on 1.5 hours each way and that's in moderate rush hour traffic. Not many alternatives either.
Do yourself a favor -- live close to where you work, or telecommute if you can. I say this not only for your sake, but for the sake of all of us on the roads with you. Only 2 more days of it for me -- then I'm full-time self-employed!

Let me tell you one thing about Harmony! Great concept!! CRAPPY homes.....Stay away from that place!!! Promise, do yourself a favor and DO NOT buy in there. No matter what builder you look at in there, they are not quality built homes at all. The concept and atmosphere is what get's people in that place, the homes certainly are not even close to being quality construction.

It would be a slow death to me. But that's just me. Some people don't mind 60-90 minutes or more each way.
As mentioned before, the commute time from Holly Springs depends upon where the job actually is in Atlanta. (A lot of people say "downtown Atlanta" to refer to any part of the city that falls inside the Perimeter [I-285] including Midtown or Buckhead, but our Downtown is a specific location. Maybe you knew that.)
Anyway, the map below shows the most direct route, the highlighted yellow route into our downtown/capitol area (ignore the left top section of red route coming out of Acworth).

Holly Springs
I‘ve been living in Holly Springs for the past 10 years and it is a nice little town. However, it's being swollowed up by over zealous developers, and it won’t be long before every inch of land has been developed.
I drive to Howell Mill Road (Downtown Atlanta) every day. The drive is very stressful and will take anywhere from 1 hour or more to get to the office. I typically leave around 6:30AM to make sure I get to the office by 8:00AM. Returning home, if I leave downtown by 3:30PM, I can get home in about 50 minutes, anytime after 3:30PM it’s a crapshoot.

Thank you all for the feedback! I'll be working in what I believe is considered the mid-town area, near CNN and Georgia World Congress Center. Any suggestions on areas with planned communities (like Harmony in Holly Springs) but minus the 90 minute commute one way? Prefer new homes but established neighborhoods with amenities (pools, tennis, community events, GOOD schools) etc would be ok too. Oh, and if I don't have to suffer through three hours of drive time, that would be great too!

Seven Hills in Acworth
Anyone know how long a commute from Acworth (possibly the Seven Hills community) would be to mid-town? Is Acworth nice? I believe it's Paulding county and has good schools. East Paulding High I believe. Thank you!!

Ummm.....it would take you FOREVER! Let's just say you better be up and out before the sun rises and you better leave by about 3pm everyday to return home or else you might not be home until about 8pm that evening. Trust me, you would not want to make this commute!! You could not pay me enough money to make this commute either.

CNN Center and GA World Congress Center are in Downtown. It is about 5-10 minutes farther in then the area jtm3 is talking about.
