You can live in Alpharetta but pay Cumming taxes.

LOL!! Yall are going to get hanged and burnt at the stake out there in Cumming. Those bumpkins in Forsyth county are crazy. All black folks had to vacate the county before sundown each day. There was still a lot of hostility even into the 90's. Be gay in Forsyth County at your own risk....
You would love it inside the perimeter. In my experience, there is no place better when it comes to diverse types of people.

Here's a snapshot of my life in Cumming 5 years ago:
My husband and I were a young professional couple (no kids) who bought a gorgeous $400,000 house in a gorgeous subdivision. We moved in.
Day #1: I arrived home from my job at 5pm. I was greeted by 4 blonde soccer mommies standing shoulder to shoulder in a row, in MY driveway, blocking me from driving into MY OWN driveway. (Note: I am blonde and very upper-middle class in appearance with all the "perfect" trinkets necessary to being accepted into subdivision life - Except Kids.) Ms. Blonde Leader of The Posse steps up to my car window and proceeds to warn me that "You people do not deserve to own this cul-de-sac lot. This is a subdivision for familes WITH CHILDREN."
Welcome to Cumming.
We sold our house exactly 2 years later at a nice profit. Thank God.

That sounds like it could happen anywhere however. Where were the "blondies" from? They sound a bit indigenous to me. Here's one of my lovely experiences when I first moved to Metro Atlanta in 1991:
I was going to close on a property on Roanoke Avenue in Atlanta (Near Lindburgh & Peachtree) in November 1992 ... Two of the locals approached me and stated, "We don't like fa***ots in this neighborhood" ... How crass and 3rd world? I was dressed in a business suit, white shirt and tie.
Charming. So hospitible. So Atlanta I thought - could I be wrong? I was thinking at that time, "Did I just ruin my whole life? Almost.
I got back in the car, called the R/E agent (I had a 'bag' phone then) and stated "Get me the ***** outta here". Which I did. Thank goodness as well... Haven't seen or passed by that neighborhood since 1992.
No one or area is "exempt" from that kind of atrocious behavior. Anywhere. Then OR now. 'Nuff said.

If it had been me I would have advertised the home in every newspaper that's distributed along Buford Highway and sold to home to a nice illegal immigrant family with 8 children for $10,000.00.
14 years ago: I got my house in Powder Springs and a long time friend of mine needed a place, so I decided to do the roommate thing since the house is too large for one person. Well, two guys moving into a home together with no women in tow in West Cobb back then screamed "gay couple" to everyone on the street, even though no, we're not gay, much less a couple (if I were into guys I could do better than him - I hope) LOL.
A new neighbor met me at my mailbox and said hello, but rather than introduce himself, asked a few quick questions about the lack of women and children in the house, followed by a, " I'm not sure how well you type of fellers are gonna get along with the locals here". Rather than go into the " no, we're not, and no we're not that either" speech, I had a bad day, and without even replying, turned around and walked back to the house.
Two months later after I had fixed up my shotty house and yard a lot, I approached HIM at HIS mailbox and said, " You know, you're probably right. I've been talking to my realtor and think I'll move back into the city. He has a REALLLLY nice, large, Haitian family and a Mexican man and his wife and sister with their kids who are all looking for a place JUST like this one. I think we're going to sell" - and I then walked into the house without saying another word.
blurb: (no offense to Haitians and Mexicans - I'm just saying I knew what the reaction would be to this out here at that time).
Within a few days of telling goober this, pretty much every single neighbor on the street approached me, introduced themselves, and would add something like, " Oh, we'd really HATE to see you boys move - please stay, we're sure you'll love it here if you give it a chance!!". Apparently the supposed "gay couple" they figure were better than black or Mexican foreigners with lots of kids. So, I thanked them, and then took the opportunity to tell all of them that "by the way..." they had been wrong from the getgo - my roommate and I were not gay, and just friends - but I still thought they were all hillbilly jackasses for the initial "welcome" and wanted nothing to do with them all. Regardless - everyone's been really nice to me since that day.
I'd hate to see what would happen if a gay Haitian with a Mexican boyfriend tried to move in, though.

These posts are hilarious!
In my Cumming subdivision example, the 4 gals in The-Blonde-Soccer-Mommy-Brigade were born n' bred Cumming locals who had married their Cumming high school sweethearts and bought out an entire wing of this Cumming subdivision. (Of course, each family was also on the subdivision board of members as leaders - one in charge of Finances, one was subdivision President, etc.) Horrible experience.

Well that certainly explains a lot! "Horrible" is probably being polite.
Some of us here do identify and feel your prior pain ... while some have exising pain! Fortunately mine does not exist due to my proximity or residence!
