Hi again! So I'm starting a new job and haven't worked in an office in two years. I don't think I can get away with my pajamas anymore...shucks!

I'm going to work in an office that is "business casual". Wondering if there's any difference in style in the south and what kind of clothes will carry/transition for the change of season. I don't know know how long the warmth of summer lasts, etc. and fall kicks in.

Welcome your thoughts!! Also any good areas to shop would be welcomed!

I'm no style maven, but for the most part it really doesn't get cold here until November/December and even then you probably won't need a coat until January. It's been my experience that southern women tend to wear more brights and pastels, whereas in the northeast it's more blacks and neutrals.

The Rave and Body Shop does not equate to business casual. Look in places like Macy's, Ann Taylor, Express. Slacks/skirt, tailor blouse, dress pumps/shoes would be consider business casual. No florescent colors. You can probably find some business casual outfits in JcPennys, Kohl's, etc.

Thanks so much for the feedback!

Any unique Atlanta-area shopping...either in the way of the shop name or the shopping area. Trying to find something other than your standard mall.

Roughly 35-45 minutes North on GA400 in Dawsonville is the North Georgia Premium outlet mall. Very popular. No - I don't shop for women's clothing, but it's according to the women in my office, "the place for bargains" for girl junk.

Not sure I'd recommend going there this weekend (7/31-8/2) due to the no-tax holiday which will draw huge crowds at every mall(ish) type place, though.

Plunging necklines, short short skirts and stiletto heels are highly recommended.

ATLorBUST, because it's so warm here tank tops are GENERALLY acceptable...but check your company's dress code.

There's an H&M in Atlantic Station. Urban Outfitters...one in Buckhead and one on the corner of Ponce and N Highland.

Lenox Mall, in general, has a lot of regular old mall shopping.

In the end how you dress is determined by you employer...but many are lax in their rules. Like, my employer says "No jeans, except Fridays, and no tank tops." But because it gets hot no one really says anything when the women start wearing tank tops. Most of us just bring a shirt to pull over it if we have to go to a meeting where we REALLY want people to look into our eyes while we're speaking...

One thing to remember, too, is that the air conditioning may be really cold where you work. For me, it doesn't really matter if it is winter or summer, I pretty much wear the same thing (except for the jacket when I'm outside).

I'm with bdeitrick - it really depends what the temperature is like at your desk. I work in a large, modern multi-tenant office building where the air conditioning seems to be set at freezing, and unfortunately the area in which my cubicle is located is extra-freezing. After numerous complaints to building management from people in my zone the A/C has been adjusted slightly, over the years, but it's still really cold. I think the air-conditioning in this kind of building is often set to be comfortable for a guy in a three-piece suit with jacket in a sunny-side window office. It's a miserable waste of energy, IMO. Nonetheless, I keep a jacket in my office and in summer I typically go to the office dressed much too warmly for comfort outdoors. Tank tops - I wish!
