Default Grant Park

Hello! We currently live in Sandy Springs and really want a more urban vibe. We have narrowed it down to Grant Park and Inman Park. I have read some places that although both areas are gentrifying, Inman Park is a lot further along. Also, some have said that Grant Park is as gentrified as it is going to get due to:
-A prison near it
-The proximity of Peoplestown and Summerhill

Any thoughts? Could it really be stagnant???

If you can put up with a couple break-ins every month in your n-hood then you should be okay.

I have a couple friends in Grant Park who have never had any issues and love it there. Maybe that was just TIC.

I live in Inman Park and have sold homes in Grant Park. Yes - I do think that Inman Park is further along and the home prices reflect that.

My Grant Park clients have never reported any break ins. If you do have children or plan on having them soon - check out the Neighborhood Charter School. Neighborhood Charter School. I have heard lots of good news about the school.

In my opinion, the biggest "problem" for Grant Park was I-20. There are some beautiful homes with the back yard as I-20. Even though you don't hear much traffic noise in the house, you could never really enjoy your front or back yard.

Here are the neighborhood websites:

Both are great, we looked in both neighborhoods and decided on the Grant Park area because (a) We were only going to spend up to 450K and couldn't find what we wanted for that price in Inman Park (b) We really like the Park itself.
There have been breakins but we have never been victimized in the 3 years we have lived here. We do take precautions;however they are the same precautions I took, growing up, in a 1.5 million dollar house in DC. For example growing up we always had a security door , in addition to our back door, mainly because our back door was( and is in my current house) mostly glass. Additionally, we have window pane looking type bars on one set of our back windows. Finally, we have a dog who barks very loud.
Realize that crime is an issue in the city , as a result many of the neighborhoods pay for an off-duty cop. I will not pretend that we do not have crime issues, but I have never heard of my neighbors being broken in to on multiple occasions. This may, however, be an issue if you state looking at houses closer to the stadium.

Hey, while you're looking in Inman Park don't forget Candler Park across the street! Same schools as Inman Park and same urban feel. The homes in Candler Park are more like the homes in Grant Park where as Inman Park has more grand homes.

I have a colleague who lives in Grant Park and seems to love it there. His daughter attended Pre-K last year at the local elementary school near his home. Although he and his wife originally intended to register their daughter for kindergarten at the charter school, they were so satisfied with their experience at the local elementary school that they decided to keep their daughter there. Since they were happy with the school, they like that it's just a short walk from their home while the charter school would require driving.

So it sounds like there are even good public school options in Grant Park.

I don't know how much more "gentrified" Inman Park could get!! What is your definition of "gentrified"? That being said I know some people that lived in Sandy Springs and moved to Inman Park 3 years ago and they love it - they were in this year's Inman Park Tour of Homes.

Break-ins happen everywhere. My husband's mom lives in the Northlake/Briarcliff area with $450k+ homes and they have a serious problem with break-ins right now. I'm not talking the smash-and-grab while you're at work, I'm talking about coming home, having a gun held to your head and tie you up kind of break-in!! I know Inman Park also has a hired security patrol you can join.
