If you are partners, Decatur has been the unofficial lesbian utopia in the Atlanta area for some time. Otherwise, there are lots of singles (gay and straight) in the Virginia Highland, Midtown, and also Decatur areas.

I'm gonna laugh if OP turns out to be male.

They may be a very good teacher.
Just because someone is a teacher doesn't mean they wish to be surrounded by families and young children all the time, nor does it make them a bad person if they wish to not be surrounded by nuclear families all the time. Just because you work with kids and may even be very good at it and enjoy it, doesn't mean you want to be surrounded by nuclear families all the time. True, there are certain suburban areas you might want to avoid living in if you want to LIVE in a nearly all adult area, though.
Case: Restaurants. Not everyone wants to be in one filled with high chairs and booster seats... and sometimes, they place will get more business by not catering to such (example from one restaurant):
So I don't fault someone for asking what the OP has asked, and wouldn't judge that they would be a bad teacher for it, either . I might pick a more appropriate are to live in if I had to travel into the city much for more adult environments, though.

Ok, Greg.
It is a sensitive topic for me--I would love to live in Roswell and as a single teacher it took some effort to find ways to get out and meet others. That was 'Back in the Day'--if I could 'Do It' then so can others. School begins on Monday for some--I have no idea what this poster's situation is--maybe he/she is not employed at this time--I can only tell you that during pre-planning every minute was filled with meetings and intense staff meetings, followed by considerable physical labor to prepare the room, get the textbooks organized, etc. Then came intense mental activity---planning for the first day, the first week, month and etc; coordinating schedules with special area teachers was always 'Fun'--some Sensitive Divas in that group--as I recall. I never had one minute to think about 'Being Single' during preplanning. Having just had a few weeks off that is when I pursued my own interests after completing required staff development or college courses.
So--while you are correct and doing a good job as Moderator remaining detatched/objective--I stand by my comments.
Does the OP want me to drive over to her/his home and share all I know about 'What To Do in Atlanta?' --I swear I will.
I do believe that such information is available in Roswell--having been myself to the Visitor's Center and seen all that goes on there--a cultural haven in which anyone could thrive, imo. Right there at the Chattahoochee River with some of the nicest people in the city living in the area. If the poster is so inclined---Roswell United Methodist Church has one of the most active and interesting Singles groups in the city.
I just don't feel 'Philanthropic' today. So I will not comment further--it wasn't easy to be Single in Atlanta 30 years ago--now you can go online to Flickr, MeetUp.com and City Data and thousands of other places and find interest groups in your area.
I cannot understand the discontent with 'Families, dogs, yards and fences'--perhaps the OP needs to teach in a more challenging area---best not make such a comment to other teachers who are teaching in less desirable situations, I can vouch for that. After you have been cursed, spat upon and generally disrespected by students who literally have no parents and not much of anything but the negative in their lives. It is hard to hear a complaint against an almost idyllic community. FWIW.
sniff--I need a kleenex.

I love the Chattahoochee Nature Center--good place to take a class on a field trip--so many great places to take students in Roswell and the surrounding area.

Volunteering for Meals On Wheels would change a few things:
1. Young couples? I think you'll be seeing more older folks.
2. Kids? Most of the kids have left the nest.
3. Minivans? You might see a few Ford Falcons. A Chevrolet Chevelle would offer more than enough excitement.
BTW, aren't Minivans on the way out. I think Chrysler has closed quite a few Minivan plants. You won't be forced to look at Minivans too many more years.
