Cartersville is a great place...I would definitely recommend living there--especially if you already like Carter Grove Plantation.

Dont let that deter you. All the other posters made valid points. It's a very nice place. I considered it at a time, but find it to be a bit far from friends and relatives that are closer to the Metro Area. I'd put it back on the list if I were you.

You all convinced me, all points well said.
The thing that is strange is the variance between up here in New England and down south. My current town (Over 10,000 people) has 2 sex offenders. The towns on each side of me (over 10,000 people each) have 1 and 3 sex offenders. No towns that I saw in Atlanta have 1-3, the lowest I saw (with a population over 10k) was Kennesaw at 12.
I will take it with a grain of salt.

Well here in Georgia i believe they have this law where if a sex offender lives within a certain distance of a school bus stop, playground, etc they have to move. Well, of course that means everyone from the city and suburbs move to less populated areas so counties like Bartow have more sex offenders than they used to.

Key words here... "That you know of".
Again, for any offender that has been caught, convicted, and registered, there are probably 3 times as many (or more) who have never been caught. You just can't rate an area as being "safe" because there aren't many on the registry in that particular area - it just means there aren't many who have been caught.

I have no explanation--better people in New England?
I have lived in GA all my life and honestly, this is not a widespread problem. Now, lately on the news, there are reports of teachers, magicians and karate instructors being charged with child molestation. I interpret this as a the decline, among some, in society. What possesses these people to engage in such acts? I do not want to know, but lately the news has had many such reports.
There is one well-known sex offender--the guy who claimed to have taken/been involved in the murder of Jon Benet Ramsey. I think he moved to Alabama? He was living in Sandy Springs with his father and new girlfriend and there was a report of a domestic dispute. No charges--IIRC.
The neighbors wanted him to Go and I think he finally did, too.
Cartersville, GA is a conservative little town and if there are any problems they would utilize legal means to take care of offenders. You can bet the ranch on that. If you move to GA--you will learn the colloquialisms--we have dozens. 'Well, it's a deep subject', 'Don't let the door hit you where God split you' and 'I'm fixin' to' anything--'Go down the road a piece'--that would be appropriate for Cartersville--long, winding mountain roads and they fly low.
FYI: Cartersville is located on a drug route from So FL to Canada--don't even think of transporting drugs through there--the State Patrol officers are vigilant.

Could be a difference in laws between the two locals, or a difference in the way such things are reported. Hard to say.

Hello everyone, I am not sure if I am doing this right or not. I just posted a message and can't seem to find it. So I am going to post it again, my family and I are from Toccoa, Georgia, we moved to Kissimmee, florida apx. one month ago. We got a nice home on a lease with a opt. to buy. We just got a letter in the mailfrom the owner stating that is has lost the home. We want to go back to Georgia but want to go to Cartersville this time. However our money is very tight at this point which everyone can understand i'm sure. We are looking for something with very little down payment and maybe eletric included, we have no issues with paying rent but we all know the move in cost are the worst, our rent here is $1,500 a month and it is not a problem. However we just lost $9,000 bucks moving in here. Is there anyone who can help us please. Thank you so much!!! C&T

Cartersville is in the metro Atlanta area, granted development patterns are a bit detached from Cartersville. For example, if you're traveling north on US 41, development seems to come to a screeching halt once you hit the Bartow County line, of which Cartersville is a part of, then picks up again once you hit Cartersville. However, the developed area of Cartersville doesn't only take in Cartersville, but it takes in unincorporated areas directly to the southwest of Cartersville, such as areas around Old Alabama Road, as well as areas of Mission Road and Euharlee Road to the west, out to the city of Euharlee.
If development picks back up, which I imagine it will, you'll see Cartersville more connected with the rest of the metro Atlanta area. After all, it's only detached by about a five mile undeveloped area.

Cartersville is not a little town. I wonder if you've even been there. Sure, it's nowhere as large as Marietta, and it is a bit detached, as I mentioned previously, but the developed area of Cartersville is about ten miles north-south by ten miles east-west (out to Euharlee).
What mountains would you be speaking of, as there are no mountains in and around Cartersville? There are a few bluffs, the ending of the ridges that are readily seen in areas closer to Chattanooga, as both are part of the Ridge and Valley Physiographic area (Cartersville is just on the edge of this physiographic region, while places east and south are in the Piedmont physiographic region).
