Johns Creek/Duluth questions (Atlanta, Sandy Springs: apartment, home, neighborhoods)

Possibly moving to the Johns Creek area. I have noticed that a lot of the neighborhoods in Johns Creek have swimming pools. What outdoor pools are in the area for those without a neighborhood pool?

Also, I am also looking at a commute from Johns Creek to Sandy Springs, what is the commute from Abbott's Bridge Road down Peachtree Industrial Blvd like? In particular what would the average time be during rush hour down Peachtree Industrial from Abbott's Bridge Rd to Jimmy Carter Blvd and then from Jimmy Carter to Sandy Springs via 141 and 285?

Peachtree Industrial can get hairy during rush hour, especially if there are accidents on the interstates nearby which cause people to use it as a seconary choice on top of the regulars. I used to live in that area a few years back and it took maybe 30 minutes to get home on some days and traffic has increased since that time. Can't comment on pools as the apartment I lived in at the time had its own.

If you're unaware of John's Creek, it's a new city and has some news with it. I'm not sure if you're one who really gives a hoot about who's running a town or not, but the news has had a lot of stories lately about how completely bent out of shape the mayor there and some of the leaders are over the opening of a single adult novelty store (the "Love Shack").

I mean fer real, at some point it took complete priority over all other city business there to try to shut the place down, and the Mayor when interviews on TV, well, comes across as a real weiner. Again, that kind of stuff may not be important to you, but I'm in question about the sense of priorities among the leaders in that town. If it were a strip club near a school or an actual porn shop (it's one of those goofy novelty stores), then it might be different, but it's like watching a Saturday Night Live parody of the old South.

Again, regarding traffic, if you hate stop-and-go stuff, you might get frustrated with that area and that commute during rush hour. If you can handle it, it's not THE WORSE commute you could have in Atlanta compared to some.

There are pools at the Y and LA Fitness in Johns Creek. Not sure if there's a city pool. Most neighborhoods are swim/tennis here.

Commuting to Sandy Springs would not be fun during rush hour. It would wear on you unless you could vary your schedule to miss most of the really heavy traffic. I would average an hour and if there were an accident it could be 2 hours. (one way)

Johns Creek and Duluth are both nice, get-away suburbs, but I agree with atlantagreg: they are made almost unenjoyable by the constant traffic. A Sunday morning drive from that area might be 20-25 minutes, but during rush hour it could take you at least an hour or more.

And then there's the social aspect of Johns Creek. It's a new city, and seemingly their first and biggest priority was putting an adult gift store out of business. That they didn't address traffic flow and transit should be an indication of (possibly) misplaced priorities.

And soon enough, the new-ness wears off and it's just another distant suburb with unbearable traffic problems.
