We moved to Dunwoody in February and rent a 2-Bedroom townhouse for $850. They're older units but it's a small complex and quiet: Dunwoody Trails on Pernoshal Court. It's down the street from the closed Emory Medical Center.

Here's an example of the real consequences of such a roommate ordinance law.

This country has lots of natural disasters--earthquakes, and hurricanes.

Say a monster 8.2 earthquake hits Los Angeles, and lots of people say, "I've had enough of earthquakes and I'm moving east. I've heard good things about Atlanta."

Here's two possible scenarios:

1. Adam and Eve are both 25-years-old, and are a married couple living in Marietta, Georgia.

Adam and Eve offer Sean and Ryan, two heterosexual former college buddies at UCLA, rental bedrooms in their spacious Marietta home to rent for a year while their two former college buddies look for jobs in Atlanta and get settled.

Cobb County views Adam and Eve as RELATED, since they are married. Under the provisions of the Cobb County Roommate Ordinance, a RELATED married couple would be allowed to rent two additional bedrooms.

2. Adam and Steve are both 25-years-old, and are a committed gay couple living in Marietta, Georgia.

Adam and Steve would like to rent rooms to Sean and Ryan, two heterosexual former college buddies at UCLA, in their spacious Marietta home but can't.

Cobb County views Adam and Steve as UNRELATED. Presently, there's already two UNRELATED people living in the home. Any additional person/persons would be a violation of the law.

Under the Cobb County Roommate Ordinance, no more than two UNRELATED people can occupy a home.

I don't think the intent or enforcement is geared to people who are owner occupants who open their own home to guests for a period of time, whther for money or not. It's geared towards people who rent entire homes for commercial reasons to prevent the kinds of issues often found where many people share a rental house.

I view the ordinance from a marriage standpoint. Marriage is in the equation somewhere. Somewhere?

Alright, I'm taking in all of this. Would Alpharetta be a better area for my budget? Without factoring commute times.......

Anything is possible. Maybe someone knows Alpharetta. There are a lot of single family homes there, very nice single family homes. It covers a lot of miles--what they have in the way of apartments is something that I don't think has been mentioned here very much.

I think the poster that suggested Vinings gave you a good suggestion. Have you been over that way?

Is Vinings an area or like a town also? Atlanta is a little bit confusing to me because you have complex's that say things like "The Parc At Dunwoody" and it's located in Sandy Springs, etc.......

So I'm wondering is Vinings an area of Atlanta, Sandy Springs, etc or is it it's own Town?

Vinings is an unincorporated corner of Cobb County mostly inside the I-285 Beltway. Most of it is great, but getting pricier by the day. It is extremely convenient to the City, but on the other side of the Chattahoochee River from it. Buckhead is about 10 minutes away, Midtown/Downtown about 15-20. It is one of the nicest areas of the Metro, IMO.
