Currently we live in Columbus, Ohio. Most likley we will be relocating to the Atlanta area within the next few months. My husband will be working in Duluth, on Satellite Blvd, near Sugarloaf Pkwy. We have two small children so we want to be in an area with good schools and parks. We also want to be close to shopping. We are considering Suwanee since it's within about 10 miles of his work location and seems like a nice area. That's where I need help though, is it a nice area? Is is safe? We are mainly considering the area of Suwanee that is between Buford Hwy to the north and 985/85 to the south. The schools for that area are Suwanee Elementary, Lanier Middle and North Gwinnett High. Also, would my husbands commute be bearable being that close? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Suwanee is nice area. I like it a lot. I made an offer to one house border Suwanee/Duluth, but I was outbid.

Buford Highway around Suwanee is single road. There are a lot of new development around that neighborhoods. In general, Suwanee is very safe. The only part I didn't like a lot is a small section near I-85/Lawrenceville Suwanee road.

You know a lot of places called Suwanee but it is not within city of Suwanee. Try to stay on west side of I-85. That's where Suwanee city located.

Anyway, Suwanee is nice place. Very affordable and a lot of nice neighborhoods. Good schools in general.

Thanks for the info, I think some of the houses I saw online were east of Lawrenceville-Suwanee Rd between Buford Hwy and 85, would that be the area that you didn't like a lot? That is somewhat north of the actual 85/Lawrenceville-Suwanee Rd intersection but it is near there I would guess.

I am assuming you are talking about Morningside subdivision or Avonlea Crossing subdivisions or something close by. Those are nice neighborhoods.

Yes, one was Morningside and the others were in the same area as Morningside. I am happy to hear those are nice areas because I really like a lot of the houses there. Is there a lot of shopping close by? Also, would my husbands commute be decent? You've been great, thanks for the help!!!

Yes, shopping is not a problem. A lot of strip malls around. Discover Mall Mill is only a couple of exits south of I-85.

Cannot tell you the commute since I only visited those locations on the weekend. But I image that if your husband stay in the local road, he should be ok. I-85 South in the morning is very tough since a lot of people want to drive to downtown from North Gwinnett.

The commute would not be bad at all. You can utilize Suwanee Dam and also Satellite to get down to his office.

I would also recommend staying west of 85.

Default Mall of Georgia is not far either. NM

It's in Buford, off of 85.
