If the state allowed North Fulton to form a separate school district, this would probably end the discussion. To have such an unwieldy dsitrict separated by the city of Atlanta schools, I believe, is what is getting under the skin of most residents of North Fulton since incorporation solved most of the other ills. I say carve up the rest of south Fulton between the existing cities, let there be a North Fulton and a South Fulton School district and let the rest of the municipal services be conducted by cities. Let Fulton County exist in name only.

I thought the issue was that some people felt like they weren't getting a fair amount of services for their taxes...I've never heard anyone complain about the school system in relation to forming a new county?

Let Atlanta absorb the rest of unincorporated Fulton County. The taxes from Fulton Industrial should offset the added residents.

No kidding. I'd like for the trash picker-uppers to simply put my green trash can back on the curb, upright and in front of my house. Usually - and I'm not exaggerating - the thing is on its side in the neighbor's yard. I just find that endemic of the services the city provides.

For the Fulton County residents on here, what exactly are your issues with county services? For the one who live in incorporated cities, what do you expect from the county?

I think that is a common issue no matter which government entity provides your services.

It's called apathy.

Basic municipal services went to the cities when they incorporated. The biggest thing the county controls over the N. Fulton cities is the school district. The state of Georgia does not allow cities to establish city run school districts anymore... forget the date, but I think sometine in the 70s this was established. Existing city systems were grandfathered in, that is why you have no new school districts formed since that date.

Perhaps I am missing something, but what else would benefit North Fulton residents now that they are all incorporated cities other than being able to establish the Milton County School System?

I'm not sure...it seems to have faded away pretty much since the incorporations of Sandy Springs, Johns Creek, and Alpharetta. There may be an isolated protester here and there, but there doesn't seem to be much vocal support for the idea anymore. I don't know that I've really heard any complaints about the school system.
