Like previously suggested I think you should take a trip(if time and funds permit) and see for yourself. Everyone has different tolerate levels. BUT make sure when you look at a place you also swing by at night. An area is totally different when everyone is at home.

I highly recommend the area of Midtown along Peachtree & 6-15th street. I thought it was very safe, and there's a ton of restaurants and nightlife. And you can take marta to GSU. It is on the expensive side but worth it.

I really hope you don't listen to the frightened suburbanites...It's a common misconception that crime is downtown. Think about it...if they say no one lives downtown why would there be crime downtown? Crime follows people and wealth, not ghost towns. Like one level headed poster advised, you just have to be aware of your surroundings and don't leave things laying out in your car, etc. But that is anywhere in a big city. The area is very quickly changing and has cleaned up a great deal since some of these people have been there. How often do you think they go there when they are scared of downtown...

I would talk to someone at GSU about it...get a real perspective from someone who lives and/or works there.

I live in Midtown---love it!
At night we do have a few female impersonator's--

I live in a New Condo between North Avenue and 14th Street.

I am a City person...
Crime is everywhere---tell where I can find a crime free neighborhood?
My son live in a Gated Community called Eagles Landing...They also have problems.
