The ones mentioned above are in pretty high-income areas. It shouldn't be a problem; other areas of Gwinnett are lower SES (Lilburn, parts of Norcross; Meadowcreek and Berkmar High Schools, in particular). Gwinnett especially has a large Korean population, with a good smattering of Vietnamese as well.

And what kind of support is that???? The last time that place was a 'school of excellence' was 1996, when I graduated. Legacy Park was new and most of Hamby was already there.
It's like saying I have 4 parents raising my one and only child, but if those 4 parents are all dumba$$es then it can't beat one quality parent.

The reason those schools are so high ranked is because those areas are high-income areas.
Average household income in the Walton, Northview, and Chattahoochee areas is about $130,000. In the Alpharetta area it is about $110,000 and the Brookwood area is about $100,000.
For comparision, average household income in the United States is about $60,000.
[Buckhead, Sandy Springs, Dunwoody, East Cobb, Roswell, Alpharetta, Milton, and Johns Creek all have average household incomes ranging from about $100,000 to $210,000, depending on the zip code. These areas are north of Atlanta, in the "V" created by I-75 and I-85. All of the high schools I mentioned as having high Asian populations are in this area (specifically East Cobb, Alpharetta, and Johns Creek) except for Brookwood High.]
EDIT: Might as well stick some more info in, since I mentioned all those north side areas. Here are the high-income northern areas and their high schools (along with approximate rating out of 100 based on test scores and Asian percentage):
Buckhead (most use private school)
North Atlanta High (46/100) (3% Asian)
Sandy Springs (many use private school)
Riverwood High (82/100) (2% Asian)
North Springs High (74/100) (4% Asian)
Dunwoody (many use private school)
Dunwoody High (73/100) (6% Asian)
East Cobb
Walton High (95/100) (15% Asian)
Pope High (93/100) (6% Asian)
Lassiter High (92/100) (4% Asian)
Roswell
Roswell High (90/100) (4% Asian)
Centennial High (83/100) (7% Asian)
Alpharetta
Alpharetta High (90/100) (13% Asian)
Milton
Milton High (93/100) (3% Asian)
Johns Creek
Northview High (94/100) (30% Asian)
Chattahoochee High (92/100) (20% Asian)
Buckhead and Sandy Springs are the richest areas (think millionaires and mansions) and most families there send their kids to private schools. The other areas are all upper-middle class suburbs where most children go to public schools. Dunwoody is the only one of these where a significant number of children are sent to private school, though usually only at the middle or high school level.

Who cares? I live in Cobb and I do not wish to live in an "all white" or all black neighbourhood.

North Cobb was never a high-income area, it's worse now, but never considered high income.
Yes, income helps but not having parents who expect teachers to take care of your kids help out.
The 'no spanking' generation!!!!

LOL...I wish Scraper Enthusiast was smart enough to read between the lines..

McEachern High is a great school and very diverse. We value diversity in Cobb County. We have kids from all races and many countries!

Uh...it's not like saying that at all. Weird.
Anyway, the fact that Legacy Park heavily supports/attends the North Cobb Cluster schools is a very good sign.
The "school of excellence" argument doesn't connect now...they use a totally different set of criteria for this designation now than when they did in 1996 (thank your Gov Perdue for that!).

This I-75/I-85 affluent "V" chart should also include the Peachtree Corners/Norcross, Berkeley Lake, Duluth, Suwanee, and South Forsyth areas (namely, the high schools Norcross, Duluth, Peachtree Ridge, and South Forsyth).
An interesting thing to look at...even though this Northern "V" is now being used to show the concentrations of affluence in Atlanta, the pattern/setttlement of wealth in Atlanta (except for a few outliers of course!) follows the Chattahoochee River. Let's start in the south and travel north along the river:
Cascade
Buckhead
Vinings
Sandy Springs
East Cobb
Roswell
Dunwoody
Peachtree Corners
Johns Creek/Alpharetta
Berkeley Lake
Duluth
South Forsyth
Sugarloaf
Suwanee
Whether an area was developed 80+years ago or within the last decade, most of the wealth in Atlanta concentrates along the Chattahoochee.
