Thank you all for the ideas. We are from a small community 40 miles north of Fresno, CA, called Coarsegold. Its on Hwy 41 going toward Yosemite Nat'l Park. Winter gives us maybe 6" of snow, spring is beautiful, green like it is here in GA, there are real water shortages there and everything turns brown, the trees make it but everything on the ground bakes and dies. Drier heat with weeks of 100+ temperature. And fall is beautiful with the turning of the treees. I just didnt want to do another summer there. We have a daughter that has een in Woodstock for five years and she loves it. Yes, how'd ya know, we came site-unseen! It is beautiful here.... oh my and this is mildly humid summer ah ahhh! We've only been to TN and KY. We will take a drive up to NC - thanks for the idea. No doubt our next move we will see and feel where we are going and not just go by pictures! Our grandson lives with us and we want an area that has a great school system, so we have a lot of checking to do.

I grew up in Indiana and can remember some nasty, nasty humid days. Some goes for my time in Maryland and New Jersey. I'm not sure how much I've gotten used to the humidity over my 25 years in the South, but I hate it more each year. However, I'll take the mild winters here over our neighbors 500 miles north.

patha, you have guts moving somewhere site unseen. Not sure I could ever do that.

I've been racking my brain to think of a city/state that may offer the climate that you're looking for and the ONLY thing that comes to mind is Southern-Middle California. Its all a compromise; we have humidity, mild winters, scorching summers - But, we don't really have earthquakes, mud slides, or wildfires.

We have felt earthquakes here in GA over the past 5 years, 2 that I remember. And we also get tornadoes, hurricanes, icestorms, an occasional blizzard, extreme drought, etc.

Let me see if Ive got this right... The nearer the coast the higher the humidity! What about temperature? Is it cooler at the coast? ......I am thinking of relocating to St Simons Island can I expect miserable summers but great the rest of the year . Have I got this right.

Yes, the nearer the coast, the higher the humidity. It can be cooler near the coast in the summer during the afternoon, but most of the year it's cooler the further you get from the coast. It is very humid in St. Simons Island in the summer, but most of the year the weather is great.
