Okay, do ANY of the downtown hotels provide parking, or validate parking? I think it would be great to stay downtown and use Marta, but from the info I've seen, parking rates are just way too high, which is excluding the downtown hotels from my list of possibilities. Add the parking rate to the hotel rate and WOW, just way too much damage to the wallet!

I want to visit the usual tourist spots, perhaps use Marta to get around; oh, and not have to make a tactical entry. Any suggestions? Thanks for you help!

As with any city your going to pay for parking.
When I go downtown I usually park at the Hilton on Courtland Street. Easy on and off I-85, well lit, underground, and has camera's.
Your in walking distance to many locations and you can always grab a cab on the corner for other proximities.

The CNN Center/Omni has parking, but I have always found it to be a pain in the rear mostly due to the high amount of cars, plus it is not to fun making it back to the highway at peak rush.

second this. If you park the car yourself it's like $7, let them Valet and it's $15/day

I don't know if it would work for you, but it's possible to park in the MARTA lot up near the northern end of the line, I think it's free or cheap, then ride MARTA to your hotel.

Whatever you decide, don't use 1-85 / I-75 southbound thru downtown. There will be major highway construction starting tommorrow.

Same place I park most of the time as well. I'm amazed at how cheap parking is at major hotels and buildings downtown. I'm used to northeastern prices where after the first hour you pay $25 - $30. Here it's less than $15.

Thanks, to all who've responded and I like this suggestion. Parking area sounds secure and convenient; doing self park is no problem. I really want to leave the car parked while visiting the ATL area.

How is the downtown area as far as safety goes? I've seen various posts on hotel reviews talking about the assorted characters hanging around the downtown hotels and some said they felt a little unsafe in the downtown area. As I said I'd like to use the Marta, but I don't want to have to worry about walking about--and I'm not talking about into the wee hours of the morning.

While I'm at it, how's the Buckhead area? Does it have Marta access? Just looking for some local input. Thanks!

Default GA Tech hotel has reasonable parking

A great midtown Atlanta location.....I think overnight parking is $10 in a clean safe parking garage connected to the hotel. Atlanta's best kept secret!

if you are brave, you can just dump your car at the the Publix parking deck in Midtown or a similar free store parking lot...

I mean, it's supposed to be for customers only, but usually no one will notice.... well, I don't know about leaving your car there for days at a time though...

You can also dump your car at the parking lots in the Centennial Park neighborhood, in the apartment complexes....

Then again maybe you shouldn't listen to me... what works for a local may not be a good idea for a visitor...
