Question Canadian wanting to move to ATL

I am a young black woman, who recently graduated a BA in Healthcare Management and I'm currently working in a Project Management role for a Canadian telecommunications firm (TELUS). I would like to move to Altlanta in the near future and own a home. What are the job prospects like for me in Atlanta?

Thumbs down Good Job Market/Communications

I really cannot advise you specifically. I understand the challenge of researching employment/housing in Atlanta and other areas.

I use Comcast--absolutely revolutionized cable--tv/internet service in Atlanta. (Not advertising for Comcast...)

Is there a way to communicate with those employed within your industry?

People who post here are very Busy and sometimes just can't stop to answer such questions.

I don't mean to be unkind--but if you are considering a move--it is really your JOB to find out for yourself 'How Things Are' elsewhere.

I have lived here all my life. Employed mainly as a teacher--I could tell you about 'Living in Atlanta'--my own experiences and something about other areas--I cannot tell you about working in other industries and etc.

I would like to find out about parks/recreation areas in this now very large city--not much response to my questions. We stay pretty busy here-have to prepare for dealing with horrible traffic and just have to manage our time and resources carefully. That is how we live here.

Good luck.

sls

From an industry perspective, I think anything in healthcare seems to be a plus in Atlanta since that appears to be a major industry in Atlanta. Do a job search by industry on www.indeed.com -- it searches tons of job postings sites and will give you a glimpse of what is currently avalable in Atlanta based on the kinds of jobs beings posted all over the internet.

Also check out the paper -- www.ajc.com.

Finally, and most importantly I would think you need to research the issues of not being an American -- I don't think you as a Canadian can just freely get a job here -- you may need to be sponsored by one of the companies or you may need to apply for one of the work visas.

InquiringMind:

Other than better weather, why Atlanta?

I've lived in 4 different states and several cities, and if I had the opportunity, would call metro Vancouver my home if it weren't so dang expensive.

I'd love to trade places with you.
Me being neither young, nor black, nor a woman - do you think that would cause suspicion?
