I don't know anything about Area 51 meaning a house on a major road? I believe you're referring to the areas designated on the FMLS map of the metro Atlanta area. On that map, the entire area the FMLS (First Multiple Listing Service) covers is designated by different areas. For instance Area 51 is around Chamblee. Area 52 is DeKalb county inside the perimeter from Tucker south of East lake. It's not really that important for a consumer to know the different numerical areas of the city, especially on Realtor.com, since you can just click through to a map to see where each listing is located. Agents use the area designations to search the MLS (but we can also search by many different and more specific criteria so they're not used that much).
Realtor.com is probably the best consumer site. It will give you the largest number of listings to search and has an easy interface. Use the new Beta interface (accessible from the home page) for more pictures.
Of course, if you're serious about your house hunt, you should have a buyer's agent. She can create a custom gateway for you that will automatically update each day with new listings that meet your search criteria. It's a much more efficient way to search for homes if you know what you're looking for.
Good luck!
