copeland road was renamed to northwood. Must be pretty bad if they have to rename the street like they did with stewart avenue in south atlanta

And don't forget the notorious Bankhead Highway becoming "Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway".
Gloria25, take a look at The Accolades. Closer to the Perimeter, too. http://www.accoladestownhomes.org/

Sandy Springs
I live directly across the street from Copeland/Northwood Rd, next to I-285. The crime along that street is really high. However, get off that street and crime is virtually non-existant. The Prado is about to redevelop. Once that happens, everything else along that street will be redeveloped. Sandy Springs has very high property values because of the location. It is incredibly convenient to all parts of Atlanta. Property values are always based on location. If you want cheap, you will have to go to a worse location. You can't have the best of both worlds. By the way, the area around Northridge and Roswell Rd is similar to Northwood Rd. Both areas are slated for redevelopment by the city, with high-rises, eventually.
One thing to keep in mind is that if you are buying a townhome, no matter the cost, you will not be bad off. Ownership is key when thinking about neighborhoods. Neighborhoods with a lot of renters are where your problems lie. The cheap townhomes won't be spectacular and aesthitically pleasing, but you likely won't have a lot of crime in the area.
Alpharetta would be wonderful and great, if, and only if you worked there too. Otherwise, there is no way I would move there. Talk about a traffic nightmare.

In fact, there was an article in the atlanta journal that said the fulton police got more calls to copeland road than to any other place and it is only a mile long. I only had my laudry stolen two times. This was around 1985 so i doubt it has gotten any better.
But in general sandy springs is safe...i have not lived there in 10 years.
If you are doubtful, talk to the local police community officer, he can tell you the bad areas.

What does that have to do with "gangs" (besides nothing)?

Well genius, cause any cop will tell you that gangs committ many crimes. They don't form gangs to hang out at the library and recommend books.

That's fine. But I wasn't saying that there's no crime in Sandy Springs. I was saying that there isn't the gang problem that some have suggested.
