Is Fairburn Georgia a good place to live? (relocating, work)
I am considering relocating to Fairburn, GA. Can anyone tell if it is a good and safe area to live? How are things as for as shopping and dining? How diverse is it? What are some nice apartments under $700 if possible. Crime rate? Also, if I make this move I will be moving with a small child, any advice on daycare? If more info is needed please let me know, I'm new to this. Thanks in advance.

Where will you be working? This should always be the #1 question when deciding where to live in metro Atlanta (or anywhere really).

It depends on where in Fairburn you live. Most of Fairburn is relatively close to I-85 which means that (without traffic) you could be in downtown Atlanta in 15-20 minutes.
Fairburn is a great area and getting more and more populated. A college just moved their office there, they have an old town area with antique shops and other stores.
Real estate is everything from townhomes, and single family homes to luxury and everything in between.

I LOVE Fairburn!
Fairburn is a cool place to live. However, Spence Road is Fairburn and not Atlanta. The city of Atlanta is a good 15 to 20 minutes.
Fairburn can actually be divided into two areas. One area has high priced, prestigeous homes, and the other end is more of the, I guess low to middle class area with apartments, rentals, etc. I live in between both of them. The first area is closer to South Fulton Parkway and Hwy 92. The other part is closer to downtown Fairburn, which has a historic feel to it. There are also some "hood" areas near downtown Fairburn as well. These areas, of course, I wouldn't recommend. Of course, with these apartments being close to downtown, you have to deal with CSX railroad...yes, a CHOO-CHOO train! And quite an active one. However, there are apartments along Oakley Industrial (Orchard Springs), and some more on Hwy 74 (Senioa Road), (Meadow Glen and I can't think of the other two complexes that are nice as well).
They just built some nice looking apartments at the corner of Oakley Industrial and Spence Road (Hwy 92). I don't know how much the rent is, but, they appear to be nice.
If schools are a concern, the schools in Fairburn fair quite well. They are apart of Fulton County schools. Your choices (depending on where you move) would be Oakley Elementary (a new school going through some changes), Campbell Elementary, and Evoline West Elementary. Oakley Elementary didn't do quite well with test scores last year. Campbell and West did well; they made AYP.
Overall, I love the convenience of Fairburn. You are 15 minutes from Fayetteville (shopping), 25 minutes from Newnan (shopping), 15 minutes from Camp Creek (shopping), 20 minutes from Douglasville (shopping), 20 minutes from Peachtree City (shopping) and 20 minutes from "The" City of Atlanta. It's awesome out here.

Fairburn is a cross between small town and explosive-growth suburbia. There isn't a lot in Fairburn, and it is really just a couple of blocks of shops/restaurants - nothing fancy. There wasn't even a real grocery store in Fairburn last time I was there, but that may have changed (used to be an A&P or something...now it's no-name). Even so, there are stores - Kroger, Wal Mart etc. in Union City. Fairburn is a nice, quiet town.
There is a restaurant called Cassblanca that is really really great...
