Not too sure about that.
I don't live in Georgia, but I was reading this thread and wanted to learn more about the subject. So I googled a couple of words (Atlanta, Gang) and got this:
Greater Atlanta Naturist Group - A fraternal organization of gay male naturists.

This all depends on what your definition of a gang is, if you consider a gang groups of 3 or more people commiting illegal acts, then yes, Atlanta has gangs. But IMO gangs mean groups like Bloods, Crips, GD's, etc... etc
Looking at it in that light Atlanta does not have gangs. Atlanta is one of the few cities along with places like DC that have block crews or drug crews. They can be just as bad, but they are not gangs in the sense that bloods and crips are.

Take a drive down Boulevard or go over to the Westide and look for the teenage kids hanging out on the street corner wearing white t-shirts.

Block crews are similar to gangs in that they both do illegal things, but gangs IMO are more about turf, jumping in new memebers and colors while block crews are more about money. For instace you wont be shot in Atlanta for wearing the wrong color in the wrong area, but you could very well be shot in LA for doing the same thing. At the same time block crews run rampant as is the case right now with the smash and grabs in local stores which is being done by a crew called 30 Deep from the Mechanicsville area. Basically almost every 'hood in Atlanta has a block crew or basically just a group of individuals from a certain area who give themselves a name to make them seem bigger, but as far as being real life gangs such as Bloods or Crips, they are not.
30 Deep- Mechanicsville
PBG- Pittsburgh
4SC- Thomasville
BMF- Boulevard, Parkway,
ISG-Irwin St, Auburn Ave
MDC- the now demolished Bowen Homes, but yet those idiots are still around
YSM-Bankhead
YDC-Hollywood rd
BRC-Baker Rd/Hightower
GMPL- Simpson Rd
SGS- Summerhill, Peoplestown
EA6- East Atlanta
Simp Set- Simpson Rd
GMPL-Chappell Rd., Bankhead, Simpson Rd
C-Town Boys- Central Methodist in Adamsville
10-Allen Temple
10-10 - East Point
107- Glenwood
CPP-College Park
These were the ones that were big when I was in high school waaaay back in the early 00's. Some Im sure are still around like 30 Deep and MDC have been in the news allot lately for the smash and grabs and more recently the murder of boxer Vernon Forest. While these are all violent groups, they are not gangs.

So they are like a group of kids who hang around getting up to ever more escalating mischief? It is like that in the UK as well, a lot of it is because there are no funded youth centers any more so the kids with no parental input group together and do stuff just to do stuff, usually bad stuff.

After a quick check at the Urban Dictionary, guess Chavs is the correct plural form... I have a now 13yo daughter named Chava. We didn't have Internet when we named her, google didn't exist... Chava is a Hebrew name meaning "Eve".... but upon googling her name recently we learned its a derogtory term in Britain. :-(
I'm just trying to clarify the meaning here.

Chava is not a term used in any derogatory manner in the UK, chav is but not Chava so don't worry about it.
