Chicago is 237 sg miles , Atlanta is 133 sq miles.I never said Atlanta was as urban as Chicago.I made the statement that CHicago is a sprawl city as well.To act like its not is crazy.Atlanta metro area in size is the largest in North America.I said Chicago is no longer the Second City"any more because it has been by passed by population. Its a great city but it has some negatives that are strong negatives. The only thing you keep harping on is that you need a car in Atlanta. You do realize that the majority of major cities in the U.S. do not have heavy rail?Atlanta's MARTA is adequate.Marta's ridership has gone up drastically. Most people talk about Marta and never tried it.Its clean and safe.Chicago's is not overall. That might be a factor to someone more than if someone wants more stations.Of course Chicago being a much bigger city will have more in numbers of almost everything. But as a percentage Atlanta for such a city of its size has a statue that you would not expect. Chicago to be the size it is you would think there would be more Businesses that are located there.
I also said Chicago beats Atlanta and Atlanta has no comparison overall when you are talking about appeal for tourist travel. My opinion was that if I want to live in either city based on the things the op was looking for, they were not unattainable in Atlanta to the point where if the negatives of Chicago outweighed the positives.
Cook county isnt even the richest county in Illinois!!171 millionaie is based on a population of 9million people. The fact that you are in NYC and not Chicago proves my point!!LOL

Look, You are right bout Cook County not being the wealthiest, and Welder should've been more specific about it. Yes, Cook County do have the second largest population of millionaires & billionaires with 171,000 after LA county. What Welder made a mistake is he didn't put it more specific. Cook County does have the second most population of millionaires, but since Cook County population is so large like LA Co. with plenty of poor and middle class people, the percentage drop and that is the reason why Cook County didn't top the list. But their is 2 counties in Illinois that did make it to the top 50 for wealthiest counties by income and per capita, which is Dupage & Lake County, IL .

I am going off of what natives that live in Chicago say, as well as people from Atlanta that hav lived in both places or visited both places in different seasons, and although they still prefer Atlanta (preference) give the summers to Chicago.
I know for me, I am not a fan of the cold, but I don't necessarily dislike it either. If, I love the city, then I know it would not be unbearable for me to deal with the cold. I like spring and fall best. Summer is okay, not a big fan of Heat, so perhaps Atlanta would not suit me in regard to the weather in the summers.
Plus, I want more of a city feel, hustle and bustle. I am not saying Atlanta does not have that, because I have never been, but I think I want the ambiance of old city (with some new amenties), hustle and bustle, suburbs(if I choose), the ability to use my car, if I want, great restaurants, tall buldings and entertainment for my daughter. When I visted Chicago, I loved getting on the Metra (because I stayed in Oak Brook Terrace, my first visit) and traveling into Chicago and then catching a cab somewhere. That was so cool to me. Especially, coming from Wilmington, in Delaware, where we do not have that.

I wanted to ask you.Have you been to Atlanta before? You should visit with someone who knows the city and that lives in the city not the suburbs.Suburbs are the same everywhere.I think im being balanced in my efforts to inform you of the pros and cons.Anyway I dont think you will hate either one.So your decision should be a good one for you whatever you choose.

You are right, the richest county in Illinois is Dupage County, which is directly west of Cook County and Dupage have 1 million people. That 171,000 millionaires is not based on the whole CHicago metro area(10 million). That said it is 171,000 millionaires in Cook County alone, which have a population of 5.3 million.

To be honest although I appreciated some of Welde's points, I was wondering why he was not in Chicago either and in NY instead? Good one! LOL!!!
Thank you all!!
I think I have made a decision to go forward with the possible move to Chicago. I appreciate everyone's view points, but one think I realized from myself as well as the posts on this board is that, Atlanta (well great in black population, home for your money, diversity, etc.) It is just not the city for me. My heart is calling to go to Chicago, even with the bad winters and I just don't think the south is for me. In addition to wanting to do something out of the ordinary of my own race (African-American) and move mid-west, which most of us do not do. I think it was AtlantaGreg on a different post that said black people need to stop always thinking that Atlanta is the only black mecca and or melting pot in America (not his exact quote, but someting like that). Anyway, my point is, Chicago seems more my speed and I have decided to continue with my relocation plans there.
Thanks Again!!

No, I have not visited Atlanta, but I plan to do so before the end of the year. And you have been very informative and helpful on the two cities and the pros and cons of each.
