Not true Atlanta city limits have about 500K..
Houston - 2.2 million
Phoenix - 1.5 million
Jacksonville - 800K
New Orleans 200-300K (who knows after Katrina but its known to be a murder capital anyway)
Detroit - 900K
St. Louis - 350K
Vegas - 550K
Philly - 1.4 million
Memphis - 670K
Dallas - 1.2 million
San Antonio - 1.3 million
Most of these cities have a much larger city limit population than Atlanta with the exception of Memphis, St. Louis, New Orleans, Las Vegas, and (maybe Jacksonville, Florida if you want to stretch it) so their murder rates can't really be compared directly like you are trying to do.

Like I said, a murder is a murder. If Dallas has around 200 murders, i'm not going to say its safe because of the larger city limit. Its still a murder and these cities are dangerous

Why don't you stop assuming things and realize we are right.
The 5 boroughs have a population of 8 million total. That is NYC city limits.
The 18 million NYC metro area population includes mainland New York, Long Island, suburban Connecticut, the entire northern half of the state of New Jersey, and parts of Pennsylvania.

Because there will always be people jumping to conclusions based on a bunch of numbers about cities they know nothing about.
Now, about those murder stats. I present you the per capita figures, those faring worse than Atlanta are in red.
Phoenix ______213; per 100,000: 13.8
Chicago ______443; per 100,000: 15.7
Jacksonville ___123; per 100,000: 15.4
New Orleans __209; per 100,000: 94.7
Bmore _______282; per 100,000: 45.2
Detroit _______383; per 100,000: 44.5
St. Louis ______138; per 100,000: 39.6
Vegas ________119; per 100,000: 8.9
Nyc__________496; per 100,000: 6.0
Philly_________392; per 100,000: 27.3
Memphis ______129; per 100,000: 19.3
Dallas_________200; per 100,000: 16.0
Houston _______351; per 100,000: 16.2
San Antonio_____122; per 100,000: 9.3
Atlanta_________129; per 100,000: 25.9
Unlike you, I bother to do the math. Only 4 out the cities listed had higher density of murders than Atlanta.
People can use statistics to satisfy their own agenda. Especially when they don't study them critically. Now the question is whether you're willing to exercise an open mind, or apply the same distorted midset thus exposing your own idiocy.
BTW, I've been to Houston, St. Louis, San Antonio, NYC and Phoenix. I didn't have to fear for my life.

I felt in danger in Phoenix. The murder rates in that city is horrible. A murder is a murder. Some people on here probably had bad parenting, i'm sure you know who im talking about I feel safer in Atlanta than in Phoenix

So if a city has one murder that year, it's still more dangerous than Atlanta?

No, I don't know who you're talking about. It sounds like the one on here with bad parenting is you. You're throwing assumptions and misconceptions on things you know nothing about, and trying to pass them as fact even after being proven otherwise. What does it say about your parents when you act as if you've only got half a brain?

Chip, let me be as blunt as possible, but also as respectful as I can be. I have no idea about your upbringing, nor do I care. What I can tell you is that your statements are wrong...period. You're making statements and claims that are demonstrably untrue...period.
The FBI, GBI, City Data, and any other source for crime statistics always shows them as per 100K people, because you can't compare apples to oranges, no matter how much you try.

Chip1980 is sure a bright one! Guess what? The entire population of NYC is just under 9 million (Including Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, Staten Island). The entire metro area (Including Northern New Jersey, Long Island, Yonkers, ect.......) is around 21 million. Manhatten is around 1.6 million!!!!! And in previous rankings, Atlanta has consistantly been in the top 3 cities for violent crime rate (1990-2003 along with Detroit and Saint Louis). It almost cost the city the Olimpics in 1996 (and they tried to cook up the numbers because Atlanta actually had the worst crime rate in the nation at the time!) Clayton County (a suburb!!!) had 52 murders last year according to the statistics from the Clayton Police Department for a rate of about 19 per 100,000. Higher than several big cities on the list!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
