Greetings!
I'm a teacher with public and private school experience in Alabama and I will be moving to Atlanta. Does anyone have advice on the best route for teacher certification in Georgia? I regrettably let my Alabama certificate expire three years ago because I thought I would continue to teach in my current private school and I didn't need the certification. Now that we're moving to Atlanta, I would like to resume my teaching career in the public schools. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. ![]() |

Can you check to see if the state of Alabama Teaching License has reciprocity wth Georgia, then renew your license in your state, then move to GA?
If not, do a google search for the State of Georgia, and particular county your are looking to apply in. Good luck! |

Thanks! I'll look into that. Would anybody know if I can still get a job teaching while I work on their certification requirements in Atlanta? I have lots of experience!

Georgia Professional Standards Commission - Traditional Routes
GA does have a reciprocity agreement with AL. From what I was told when I was looking into college in AL, when you come back to apply in GA, you would have to take the GACE, if you had taken Praxis, I believe more than 3 to 5 years ago. Good luck. |

Once again the state of GA has budget cuts and many school systems are scaling back on staff and services. You have to register/apply with the different counties/municipalities and continue to check for positions that match your qualifications.

Thanks everyone! I've begun my journey toward the goal of teaching in Atlanta. I called the Georgia Professional Standards Commission and I'm submitting my paperwork for certification. I hope that the reciprocity process goes smoothly because I'm already packing my boxes to move. Thanks again!
