Well after countless searches we're finding the best deal for the house we're looking to get is off memorial drive (we've been warned) and beech drive.

We know it's close to the Wal Mart and the house is cute and quaint. It's closer to Avondale than it is the dreaded "south of memorial." The landlords told us that only females have lived in the place for the past five years and have never had a problem. There is also a single female that lives right next to the house, we met her. She said that she comes and goes as she pleases at all hours of the night with no worries.

As an added bonus, they said they'd pay for monitoring on an alarm and well, it's really cute. They've done a good job on keeping it up. Actually I love it. The house next to it has been refurbished (it's very nice) and is going up for sale soon (good luck).

So I know the area is trying to revitalize, but well, both my wife and I had little red flags waving in our heads making us question the area. Still, it has a lot of hope, too.

Here is the area (google map) <--I'd just to like to know...is this area "bad" and going to be "worse" as we live there. Or is it just questionable and so-so? (We can live with that).

If it's going to be bad and get worse...then we're all about just sinking more money and moving closer to Decatur Square. If it's just so-so, like I said, we can live with that. It's 3.5 miles away from the square, I love Decatur and living that close would be great (right now we live in McDonough and any trip to Decatur is an all day event).

Do you have children?

I don't think you do.

That area is ripe for redevelopment, but due to the economy, the process will be slow -- expect at least a few years of the status quo. How close it to Clarkston?

no kids, we've lived in Clayton and Henry so if it's a step up from that, we're going in the right direction.

I think that area is OK. Parts of Clarkston are pretty horrible.

Have you looked in Avondale (where at least you would get the AVondale police protection)?

we found one area in Avondale but the house was crummy (we're on a very limited budget). This house on Beech is lovely, well taken care of and 3 bedrooms. Plus the outdoor area (high fenced in area, nice patio, cool shade, dog run) just sells it for us. We just don't want to run into a trap

I agree with lmm...that area is a bit of a crapshoot IMO. If it were me, I would limit my search in that area to the other side of Memorial.

we have one place on Adair but the rent is $$$, we're trying to get them to go down a bit on it.

I'm freelance, so income is crazy at times, that's why we're having to be creative. That said, safety is of a concern. Plus, I lived in Clayton and it was the pits, even just shy south of Memorial seems like a dream upgrade.
