Does anyone remember "Storyland" (at least I think that is what we called it)? It was a tiny little theme park with story book character rides and shows. I kind of remember it being near where Cumberland Mall is now, but I didn't drive then, of course, so I may be way off!

That's right, hear the intersection of Akers Mill and Hwy 41. And there was nothing else out there!

Tech72RAT, you mentioned 7-Steers when you were looking for the Old Hiclory House's name and you got me to remembering...
There were two 7-Steers restuarants. One in Buckhead, catty-cornered to the Zesto Hamburger/ice cream drive in, and one downtown across Peachtree from the Fox. They were special because they had SEVEN (wow!) different kinds of hamburgers on the menu. Us Buckhead kids were really impressed. Some even cost as much as a dollar!
The Buckhead one had a drive-in section in back of the restuarant and that's where I often took my "special girl" back then in '60 & '61 in my old '47 Ford (first car). The carhops would let me park in a certain spot that was at the top of a small hill because they knew the damn car wouldn't start most of the time and I had to kick it off while rolling.
Thanks for bringing that little memory back for me.

AND... I do remember Story Land Park, as well as Funtown and Lakewood Park when the Southeastern Fair came to town and featured Joey Chitwood's Thrill Show. Did anybody else ever go to the early NASCAR races they held at Lakewood? How about the weekly stockcar and jalopy races at the Peachbowl Speedway near the Atlanta Waterworks (remember the smell when the wind was right from the old slaughterhouse next to the speedway?)

The other night a friend reminded me that Theatre of the Stars was originally Theatre Under the Stars, and was hosted at Chastain Park...it was originally a summer series of outdoor musicals (I remember seeing The Music Man).
