Agreed.

The is a HH over at Northlake by the way. It is in an old strip center just down from the old location of Steak and Ale.

I used to eat at the HH on Scott Blvd atleast 5 times a week when I lived in Decatur.

I am doing a job in Decatur, and I ate at Community BBQ on Clairmont Thursday, Fox Bros BBQ on Dekalb Av on Friday, tried to eat at Community again yesterday and they had run out of meat (Memorial Day) and ate at Community again today. I love good BBQ!

I miss all the Steak and Ales. They were steaks for the money.

You're right, LovinDecatur. I remember we could get there from Buford Hwy, too, but I seem to remember using the access road a lot - maybe just when I left. We loved that place so much, that my brothers and I used to talk about opening a place like that one day. Just sandwiches, beer and wine - oh, and a jukebox!

Does anyone remember the old man in the wheelchair that you could always find at Northeast Plaza Shopping Center on Buford Highway? He was there for years when I was a young kid (1960's), then when Northlake Mall opened up, I saw him over there sometimes. I used to love running over and talking to him - he was a nice guy. I guess nowadays it's called panhandling, but it was not scary like it is today.

YES! It's the Brunswick stew benchmark, for me, that no one since has achieved. And there's one in Dunwoody? Didn't know, since I've moved away. Will make it my next go-to place next visit. Thanks for the tip!

Smile Royal Peacock

Sorry! Don't mean to ignor your reply, I haven't been dropping by this forum as often as I would like to. Yes I still remembered y'all white folks was always escorted in-side and seated first plus had better seats that us blacks, Also they use this rope inorder to divide/segregate the white's from the black's. And on a given weekend when Jackie wilson were performing there were always at leasted 50 to 75 white's mixed in with bout 500 hundreds black's. Anyway every-body had a great time to-gether. Also back at that particular time what other black club did you attend?.Well it was all good and it's Nice to see that you have survived the good 'ole days. Feel free to butte in any time.

As far as other clubs from back in the day, Well I'll have to get back with you later since my spelling not so good, For sure clubs along Simpson/Hunter St. Ok here's two that comes to mind the Pink ***** Cat, Dot's Lounge and a club named the Casino just across the street from the Royal Peacock, Also the Blue Room there at Henry's Grill right next door to the Peacock.

We were too, you just couldn't tell by looking. I also enjoyed Pascal's. But even small places then - where you didn't have to pay a cover - might have a trio plus a sax.

some random buckhead memories...
red dog saloon, later became a head shop. The drugstore across the street that had a lunch counter.
A mom and pop theater that showed art and foreign films-they would take your money and give you your ticket but they wouldn't allow any food or drink inside-no concession stand.
When Lenox Square was semi-open and had the Uncle Remus sculptures.
Long time ago, this is making me woozy.

I remember the sculptures at Lenox and the little fountain that you could hear for an amazing distance when out on the mall. Of course, most of the time it was too hot or too cold to spend much time outside the stores. I wonder if that is why it was quieter then.

Someone that I went to HS with reminded of the Electric Eye, an "underage" (and dry) club for teens at Briarcliff and Clairmont Rds. back in the late 60's and early 70's.

Anyone remember a restaurant that had a stone well inside the entrance way? You could lean over and look down into the darkness-always gave me the creeps but I had to do it.
