Oh yeah, I was a cashier at Colonial Store in high school...they were bought by Big Star later. Lenox Square had a Colonial Store, too.
Remember Ben Franklin 5&10 and Super X Drugs?

Yes, remember Dunaway Drugs as well. The current mayor of Marietta is a Dunaway from that family. Treasury Drugs was another. Treasure Island was along the Zayre and Richway mold. Think they were both part of the JC Penney company.

For sure...and in the early 80's, happy hour at Harrison's on Peachtree was de rigueur.

Wish my grandmother was alive to add to this, she was born in 1889 in Cherokee County, moved to the Edgewood neighborhood with her family when she was 13. She went to school with the Woodruff of Coca Cola fame. Rode the street car to downtown where she was a stenographer/bookkeeper for a firm in the Hurt Building. She told me of watching the great fire of Atlanta from her office in the Hurt Building.

688 Club. I only went a handful of times in 1985 and 1986, but it was the most amazing dive with a roster of bands over the years like this city has never, nor will never see again. Of course, that could just be me thinking that early 80's alternative rock is the bees knees. A place like The Earl today still hosts very good, smaller bands, but the 688 was of a totally different era (throw in the Metroplex for bonus points).

Makes me remember a great-aunt of mine (quite a few years older than my grandfather). She moved to Druid Hills from Washington St (that runs alongside Turner Field) in 1911. Years later, when she had "gone round the bend" and was living at the nursing home at Wesley Woods, she was fond of trying to escape the building in her wheelchair (made it to the parking lot a couple of times). When she was found, the attendant would ask her where she was going..."down to Whitehall St to get a steak and then to the Kimball House for dancing" was her reply.
Whitehall St, for those who don't know, was what is now Peachtree St south of Five Points. In her day, it was the heartbeat of the city.

Yep and later on it moved to Cherokee Plaza in Brookhaven.
I saw BB King there in 1979 and Diana Ross was sitting in front of me. I kid you not, attending the concert in that tiny little theater were:

Diana
Ryan O'Neal
Tatum O'Neal
Kristy McNichol
Eric Clapton
The Pointer Sisters
KC of KC and the Sunshine Band

They all got up on stage with BB for the encore.

There's still a "Lettuce Souprise You" in the strip mall at the corner of Briarcliff and N. Druid Hills.
