HELP!!! I am an black woman from oklahoma, finished my degree in psychology, single, and i have a two year old son. I'm deciding whether to move to Austin, tx or Atlanta, Ga. I've heard a lot of great things about both cities. The most important issues for me is to: have great empolyment opprotunities, great place to rasie my son (safe, great schools, family activities etc..) entertainment, and dating potential- I'm not stuck on race. I would appreciate helpful advice.

Thank you

Well, from what I've heard of the market for folks with psychology, you're going to have a tough time finding work here in any field related to your degree.

Austin has lost far more jobs than Atlanta - read the local news sources online.

If you like a lively music scene, general overal "funky" city, and a big city but without much of the big city bad junk - Austin might be the pick. Your only drawback will be that it gets hotter and more humid than Atlanta there, but on the flipside, everyone I ever knew that came from there always had a shrink they saw on the side, so job wise, you'd be set. LOL

If you're planning to work in social services stay out of Atlanta. There are no jobs here in that field. I've been here since May, been looking since February and I have an MSW and fifteen years experience. I've had exactly 6 interviews and one offer. I had to turn it down because daycare for my son would've eaten up more than half of my pay. I can't speak for any other fields, but the pay here in social services is even significantly less than I made in Alabama. Scary thought, isn't it? So far the best paying cities in that field have been Chicago and Madison WI. Nothing in the south at all.
