I love my part of town (Emory area) but if I could afford a more expensive home I'd love to be inside the City of Decatur in the Westchester/Great Lakes area -- close enough to walk to shops, restaurants and MARTA rail. Of course, if I won the lottery and wanted to stay in the city I'd probably choose Druid Hills, which is my favorite neighborhood in the city.

Depends on how much $$ you have and your family situation.

Were I single or a DINK, I would live ITP, particularly in mid-town or Downtown.

If I were elderly, I would not live in Atlanta at all. I would enjoy the small town life somewhere, maybe North GA in the mountains.

If I were very affluent, I would live ITP (means Inside the Perimeter) and send my kids to decent private school. Areas I like are near Buckhead and near Northside Drive and West Paces Ferry.

Rural areas are very appealing for me as well, such as Rabun County in NE Georgia. So if I stayed within the state and were very affluent, that would be a great place to go to, especially as a retiree.

The thing I love about Druid Hills is its' variety, Intown. So many people think Druid Hills is simply the 'mansion' area of Clifton/Lullwater/Oakdale/Oxford/Springdale; however, the area east of that, while more modest, is so charming. It's a real 'nooks and crannies' neighborhood, with houses tucked down alleys, hillsides and wooded lanes. I particularly like the area around Chelsea Drive, where it feels like you're in a funky mountain community. You'd be hard-pressed to find that anywhere else intown (or out).

Hmmm, if money were no object, one of those nice homes on The Prado! If I ever sell my condo, I think moving in on the side of Decatur closer to Atlanta would be do-able. I actually like my little area (Scottdale), though I may not be here long-term.

In the present I would live in the Lindbergh area near Lindbergh Station. I would then move to Hapeville (up and coming) when my girl and I get together for life.

Convenient location. Access to MARTA rail. Lower crime for an inside the perimeter area. Reason: I used to live in that area but due to work had to leave it. Would live there again given the opportunity.
Where is Brookhaven?

When I can feel free to gas up and drive again, I'm going to check that out. Meanwhile, I'm exploring Scottdale on foot. LOTS of potential here.
