Hello, I've been lurking around in the forum for about a month now but I can't seem to find what I am looking for. I am 25 year old single african american female with a child. I am looking to move to atlanta within the next six months. I would like to live near the downtown area but I would like a place that has a high amount of blacks living there. Right now, I am not worried with a school because my daughter is too young at this time. I work out of my home so this not a location problem either. I'm stumped and I really need some help here. Thanks in advance

Finding a place with a "high amount of blacks" in a majority black city is not that difficult.

although this is true, as I have been reading, the city is still pretty segregated, in terms of their neighborhoods. Especially near the downtown area. Like I said, this is from what I've been reading on this forum.

I think you should look for the zip code 30318.

It is minutes from Coca Cola center (Downtown Atlanta), and a lot of very nice houses on that area are in Foreclosure, so...you should be able to find a house for a pretty good fair price.

If you ride around different areas, it will be apparent which neighborhoods have a large African american population. My husband and I were looking for a diverse location, we found it by riding around neighborhoods.

To all of you, Thank you To Merin, I was looking into the grant park area but the more I read, the more negative stuff I heard about it.

You might look at East Point. My wife and I have lived here for 3 years and we like it a lot. It's close enough to downtown (where we work). Takes us about 12 minutes from the driveway to the parking deck.

The area we live in (Jefferson Park) continues to get better. You also might look at Hapeville which is a couple miles further south by the airport. It's nice. Collage Park is also nice down along Main St. and over towards Hapeville.

I wouldn't personally live anywhere between East Point and Downtown. It's somewhat sketchy.

Also, we lived in Grant Park for a couple years and eye witnessed two crimes. Those are the only crimes I've seen before or since anywhere. We saw neighbor get mugged when she got out of her car and another time we watched some guys steal a car.

I've lived in Grant Park for 4 years and never witnessed anything. Even before reading the last few posts - I was going to recommend Grant Park.

I live in a gated community where I have a good number of neighbors that exactly fit your demographic and situation. And I know you say schools aren't important - so are you just looking to rent? If looking to buy - I would think you'd want to take into account schools for your child and Grant Park has a great charter school as well.

The park is a great place for kids - so you would be in good company!

You'll find in this forum the more you post about what you want to spend and what is important to you - the more help you will get. Good luck!
