I am interested in an International Baccalaureate High School in the burgeoning areas of South Dekalb. Can anyone give me some specific information about Martin Luther King Jr. High School?

It is to soon to tell if the IB programmes will be successful. I will tell you that at high schools with far better demographics that MLK (in other words, mostly affluent) only about 10 in 50 students who start off in IB actually finish. It is a very rigourous programme. DeKalb has a long history of only getting things half right.

Under the current economic situation, many of the observers of DCSS wonder if long term, the system will be able to afford to offer IB if only 10 kids sign up for say IB literature. Right now, a high school is generally not allowed to offer such a course unless a minimum enrollment happens.

DeKalb will have a real revenue issue for the next few years and during this time will probably get a new Super. who will have to deal with a real fiscal crisis.

MLK may be one of the better S Dekalb high schools but that isn't really saying much.
