Maybe he has gone off to a weight-loss ranch. Have you seen how pudgy he has gotten. "Beefy" is the best word...

You say that as a joke, but as TV "personalities", the stations do in fact "suggest" to them about steps to take to lose weight when they begin to gain.
Back in the mid-80s when I was in my 20s, I worked in a deli intown. We had numerous TV anchors and crews who ate there regularly (even Clark Howard in his early years). More than once, one of them would come in to eat and they'd say something like, "I have to go lite for a while - the station has me on a diet!". Back then the women were more subject to it than the men, but these days I think both sexes get the treatment.

Atlanta is also very rare in that many TV personalities have stayed in the area and in many cases have remained with the same channels for many years. There are people on the air today who were on the air 20 years ago. Monica Kaufman (Pearson), John Pruit, Ken Cook, Chuck Dowdle, Pam Martin are just some examples of many on Atlanta TV news.
In most major markets, the anchors and reporters stay for a while and then get replaced as they get older or they move around to different markets.

That's because the pay scales here are much more generous than many other markets. It has been rumored that Monica Kaufman (I'll always know her by that name) now makes close to or above $400,000 per year. Some of the others at Channel two are at that level or not far behind. You can't even transfer to CNN and get that kind of salary. Small city anchors may only make the same income as a school teacher or barely more (low), so you see transfers much more often in those markets.

He's not pudgy, he's probably "bulking". A lot of athletes do that in the off season, especially bodybuilders and trainers. You consume more calories and lift/train with heavier weights and yes you put on some weight but once you start the dieting phase "cutting", and the weight comes off, if you did it correctly, you will have added several pounds of lean muscle and minimal fat.
