Seeking Advice on Atlanta/Decatur Pediatricians
Hi folks. My family and I moved to Decatur rencently, and we need to find an excellent pediatric practice for our 5yo daughter and soon-to-be-born infant son. He's due in a month, so we need to make a decision on this asap. Please let me know your experiences. (Nothing farther than 10 minutes outside Decatur, please.) Thanks!

We go to Carol Price at Clairmont Pediatrics. (4/321-4567) This is a very small practice, which we like. It has some downsides, such as reduced office hours compared to larger practices. However, we like the small office feel where "everybody knows your name."
In addition, Dr. Price's office is right next to our orthodontist's office.... so we get to schedule twofers and get the ortho check right along with a physical sometimes without having to make two trips.
Are you interested in a smaller practice or a large practice.

In terms of larger practices, we go to Dekalb Pediatric Center (350 Winn Way
Decatur; 404-508-1177; Dekalb Pediatric Center). It is just outside the Decatur city limits, very close to anywhere in the city. Because it is a larger practice (I think there are eight doctors), it is very easy to get an appointment. You can see the same doctor or rotate doctors. We have seen many of the doctors and been happy with all we have seen. I like that all of the doctors have children (actually all are mothers). They have privileges at many of the area hospitals; if you are giving birth at one of those hospitals they will come to give your newborn his in-hospital exam and meet with you there (I know they have privileges at Piedmont). Since it is a larger practice, I know many people who go there.

Check out Dr. Carol Hermann at Rainbow Kids in Decatur. She is an excellent doctor and parents rave about her - I am a PNP in a pediatric specialty group. We get good referrals from her - not too early (nothing really wrong with the kid) and not too late (way too sick, should have been referred earlier).

Try intown pediatrics near Grant Park. Intown Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine, P.C. - a pediatric medical practice in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. Dr Sells is great and she practices alone. Solo practices are the best IMO. There is less wait and more interaction with the doctor. Even though lots of mega practices have separate waiting areas for newborns, I am still afraid of the germ factor. In the end you walk down the same hall and sit in the same rooms as the other children. Less exposure is better IMO.

Children's Medical Group
I am a huge fan of Children's Medical Group...just north of I85 on Clairmont. Great docs, in house lab, Saturday walk in appointments, and have always been seen same day for sick child visits.
