Im Trying to be objective, but she is kinda right. If you HAD said that YOU don't think Atlanta is for you based on some perceptions YOU came across which lead YOU to believe YOU would not like the city of Atlanta because Chicago is so different. Its like an OPEN ENDED QUESTION.In a court room it would be called" leading the witness".People have their opinions and perceptions and thats okay but when you word things the way you did it makes it sound like you are asking a question you already have the answer to.It seems you want validation for the perceptions you already had.People rather you just say what you mean than appearing coy.Even if its negative. Then you say you are talking to people about Atlanta all the time as if the average person walks up off the street and mentions Atlanta in CHICAGO.To top things off your name is CHICAGORON?I think its possible you were not conscious of the way you asked it but it is what it is.

Dead on...I wouldn't have found the thread objectionable if it were phrased to the effect of " Do you believe that Atlanta enjoys a bad rap? And if so, why?" Instead it was presented as an absolute statement of fact.

Many people have some rather negative perceptions about a great deal of things ... here's an article that I thought give a pretty decent dialogue on someone "getting a bad rap":
glennsacks.com | American Fathers Get a Bad Rap
Just in my own mind ... CR wasn't inventing issue ... I truly believe he was conveying a preconceived notion ... which is pretty typical these days. If we TRULY want to change that perception ... then accept their feelings, ask questions positively and turn everything around.
OH ... if you want "inflamatory" ... here's the NEXT POST:
Now that will start fires WORTH putting out, right? BTW, best 2 u..

Rswlguy,
Hi there!
Thanks for the enclosed article. Whatever preconceived notions I had about fathers are dispelled.
If there's anything being conveyed at all in this thread, it's quite apparent that this Chicago guy is not particularly well-informed. It's OK not to be well-informed, and I'm not well-informed about many things.
I know very little about Chicago, so I'm not well-informed. I've been in Chicago a few times but that's it.
CR states, "I don't think all of the details are needed. I think many that read my questions WILL UNDERSTAND." Well, how are Atlantans supposed to understand what he's looking for, when the parameters are not spelled out in detail?
We collectively press certain issues for further clarification by CR, and only then do we hear about CR's references to blacks. It's like, " Wow, where did this come from all of a sudden. Now he's telling us." I suppose it's better late than never, but it is pretty late.
Rswlguy, my best to you, too.

Then i stand corrected. Not a problem.I can only go by what you say your intent was. That said ,as "helpful" note,in the future try to reread before you post and that way any"possible"misunderstanding will be less.Writing on these sites can sometimes appear cold an impersonal because no one can see your facial expressions,I do not mean to imply anything by this comment.Just a suggestion,do with it what you will.

Are peoples expectations to high?
I'm just curiouos why transplants get disappointed.

I suspect that people didn't do their research if they are ending up disappointed in 18 mos. Atlanta isn't a perfect city, but what it does have that seems to draw most people I've talked to is affordability. The transplants I know share the same thinking we did (we actually came here from Chicago) that Atlanta is a large city with a real chance to afford a nice home and we able to build up a nice financial cushion. Does Atlanta have imperfections? Of course! So does Chicago or any city really... But if you are smart you will do some real research before coming here and have realistic expectations which will reduce your chancse of being disappointed.
That being said, we cannot wait to end up back in Chicago someday. It's our hometown and we miss it very much.

I think Atlanta acutally gets a good rap. However, they produce very bad rap music.
