My family and I are relocating from Colorado to Atlanta in September. We are currently looking at the Chapel Hills area of Douglasville. Can anyone provide us with information on that area? How is the quality of the neighborhoods and schools there? My job will be located in the Sandy Springs. How is the commute from Douglasville to Sandy Springs? Any information is appreciated.

The commute from what we've seen is not bad to Sandy Springs, it's if you had to go into Atlanta, but you don't... If you'd like any more info you can email me and I'll get back to you. We've done a lot of searching to find a nice area to live and think we've found it in Douglasville. Just one word of advice - stick SOUTH of the I-20. Just trust me. ![]() Last edited by AnnieLMac; 06-10-2006 at 12:00 PM. |

With no traffic you should expect it to take about 35-40 minutes to get from Douglasville to Sandy Springs. You should expect to see a decent amount of traffic coming into town on I-20 expecially if there is an accident. This is only going to get worse as Douglas county is growing quickly. You should also expect to see a lot of traffic on the northern part of I-285 especially between I-75 and GA-400. I have never done the commute so i can't give you an estimate but I know traffic can slow it down in parts.

I think AnnieLMac's failure to reply shows the true commute from Douglasville to Sandy Springs.

To get from Dville to Sandy Springs/Dunwoody you will have to take 285 at some point.
Dville is about 20 mile from downtown and is a very quiet, small town located west of ATL. |

And Bankhead Hwy would be a better bet than 285. I would know, we've moved here and I've done the drive to Marietta daily since we moved. Sandy springs is not that far on from there. ![]() |

I would know after 10 years travel in from Paulding county to these areas. There is no "easy" commute to Sandy Springs, While I like Douglasville a lot for the Family you should expect at least an Hour commute time to Sandy springs during Rush Hour. If you are told less do not believe it. ![]() |

It is certainly possible that Bankhead is a faster way to get to 285 then I-20 but you are still going to have to deal with 285 traffic all the way up. If you know how to read a map it is obvious that the Bankhead Hwy is not an alternative route to 285. Because the Chattahoochee Recreational area seperates Marietta and Sandy Springs 285 is really the only major road which will work for you. There are several local roads which you can use to cut through but most of these will be congested as well and won't cut any time off your commute.
What it comes down to is the commute between these cities is not fun. |
