Advice on where to live/rent in ATL
Hello all,
I will be relocating to Atlanta in the next few months, and was hoping to get some advice on good places to rent in the area. I will be working at the airport. I won’t have to make the drive too often, so a moderate commute would be okay, but I do have to be within a 2 hours drive at the maximum (shorter would be better.) My wife is a pediatric hematology/oncology nurse, so she will likely be trying to get a job at the Children’s Healthcare in Eggleston. She would be doing the drive a little more frequently (and works longer hours,) so being closer to that than the airport would be ideal.
We’re currently renting a relative small 2 bed, 1 bath house in St. Louis for $750, and would be looking to stay in that ballpark (price and size.) Any suggestions on where to start looking?

sorry - misspelling. The name of the facility is Aflac Cancer Center at Children’s at Egleston, and it appears to be located on the campus of Emory University. She's not necesserally decided to work here for certain, but it appears to be the largest pediatric cancer facility in the area.

$750 mo for a 2/1 house is pretty low...I would anticipate $1200 and up for comparable rentals in the Emory area.
Egleston is indeed located on the Emory campus (Clifton Rd.) The neighborhoods around Emory are generally pretty expensive. Your least pricey option for a rental house in that area would likely be in Briarcliff Heights or University Heights...both safe, well-located neighborhoods.

Posters have previously suggested the Emory Gardens condos as an option. I believe they are in/near the City of Decatur, very close to Emory/Eggleston.

'bicycleguy' had some good suggestions.

Thanks everyone, I will check out the areas you've suggested. Any suggestions for areas that may not be as close, but would be a reasonable drive (hour or less) to Emory and the airport? Are there any other hospitals that anyone knows of that have a reputation as a good pediatric cancer facility?

I'm not familiar with what might be available on the south side of Atlanta but several posters live in/around historic East Point and College Park and others live in East Atlanta. Either of these areas may have housing options that would appeal to you.
I think your wife would find working with/for Emory rewarding. The area surrounding Emory University is thought to be one of the better parts of Atlanta.

I grew up down the street from eggelston and emory and am very farmiliar with the area. I actualy know of a couple places that would be very close to the rent your paying now and are very close to the highway. You are right to want to be closer to your wifes job. Traffic is horrrible going into the city but in the mornings there is no traffic going towards the airport. She would have a short drive and you would have no traffic. Let me know if I can help.
