Guns on marta!!!
Although I think it is okay living in Atlanta, this state is so backwards. Why in the hell would the state government allow guns on public transportation and resturants. That is so irresponsible. I took MARTA the other day and say some "proud to be carrying a gun on his side thug" who got off at the West End station, I was nearly terrified. What if someone would have said something wrong to him and he started shooting and I was shot and the kids sitting near by. I don't even see why this issue was even brought up, to carry guns on public transportation. But I already know some of you all would agree with this policy, probably live out in Forsyth County and never rode public trans.

I am a socially liberal, tax paying, living in the City of Atlanta, who takes public transit to work. I have no issue with law abiding citizens carrying guns, mainly because most crimes are committed with illegally obtained guns. This "thug" you describe had to obtain a permit to carry this weapon. In order to get the permit you must submit the proper documentation, have a clean criminal background and mental history. IMO, this person was most likely not a thug at all. You never know what has happened to people to make them feel as if they need to carry a weapon.

You need to worry about the ones you don't see, who dont have a conceal permit, and the serial number is filed off.

Concealed carry is allowed in the vast majority of the US and I don't believe that you will find even ONE instance of a lawful concealed carry permit holder shooting indiscriminately because someone said the wrong thing to him.
Do you think that someone who carries a firearm is unstable? You have no idea how wrong you are. You're projecting your own insecurities. If the guy had a concealed carry permit, he's more trustworthy than the average citizen because he's taken the time and invested the money in getting the training as well as going through the background checks and being fingerprinted. To even have a firearm, he's gone through another background check.
I feel SAFER in a group of armed individuals than in one that is unarmed.

Old News!
That story is about 2 months old. I have ridden Marta countless times since then and have yet to see a gun...and there haven't been ANY shootings in the news so far. I think it's ridiculous but unfortunately it is a trend around the country with handgun supporters and NRA type groups to get legal permission to pack heat in certain places (like public transportation). It isn't just "backwards" Georgia...sadly it's militant America. Do you think that armed "thug" you saw on Marta lives out in Forsyth County? He has obviously ridden public transportation...it sounds like you're full of stereotypes.

Responsible citizens generally will not misuse firearms. Minnesota allows people with carry permits to carry in restaurants as well as long ... as the establishment permits such activity, and Minnesota is not a whacko state.
I personally don't see a problem.
