Historic Roswell for young families
Just visited Historic Roswell for the first time this week. I loved it. Does anyone know if the area around Canton Street is a good spot for young families? I know there are tons of new neighborhoods not w/in walking distance to the area itself that probably cater more toward young families, but I'm specifically looking for kids in the historic district. Also, aside from 400, how would you assess the commute to Dunwoody and Sandy Springs by going on Roswell Road? Thanks!

I'm working on trying to get to Roswell for an interview, but without a car. I can get to the Norcross greyhound station. How would I get to North Fulton Hospital on Hospital blvd from there at minimal cost?

You should probably start a new thread about this as it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the OP.
You need to clarify your request. You want to get to Roswell for an interview, I understood that. I didn't understand what getting to the Norcross greyhound station had to do with Roswell or getting to North Fulton Hospital.
Honestly--I think you would have to take a cab and it would be a significant expense--$40/50.
Roswell is at least 20 miles from Norcross and I have no idea where North Fulton Hospital is. You can drive for miles and miles in the area around Roswell/Norcross before you come to business districts.

How do I post a new thread? I'm not finding the right way to do this. I'm rather new at this.

Sweetea -- I would say about 20ish minutes depending on the exact time of day and other mitigating factors plus where you are going.
I love historic Roswell. I was just up there the other day walking around and window shopping. It is totally awesome.
I am not sure about the family part, but I have had the same thoughts. I would love to live up there.

In the upper Left hand corner of this page click on 'New Thread'.
The thread will need a title--ie 'Need Transportation from ??? to ???/North Fulton Hospital'
Is North Fulton Hospital somewhere in/near Roswell?
There are a few MARTA Park/Ride stations around Northpoint/Roswell/Alpharetta maybe someone knows how far these stations are from North Fulton Hospital?

North Fulton Hospital is near the intersection of Alpharetta Highway (GA Hwy 9) and Hembree Road in the far northern part of Roswell -- most people would guess it's in Alpharetta if you stopped and asked random folks on the street. It's in the stretch of Hwy 9 that's mainly notable for a high concentration of car dealerships.
You can't get from the Norcross Greyhound station (near Beaver Ruin and Indian Trail) to that location readily without a car any way but by cab. I have no idea what the cab fare would be, as both locations are outside the city of Atlanta, so the city's standardized cab fares don't apply -- it's up to the cab company what to charge. For a while Gwinnett County (Norcross) was aggressively enforcing its local taxi ordinances requiring any cab driving through the county to be registered and comply with Gwinnett's safety/cleanliness/registration rules, which are stricter than other metro counties. This meant that for a while, only cab companies based in Gwinnett were willing to pick up fares in Gwinnett, which meant that a lot of local companies wouldn't. Don't know if that's still going on or not. The only Gwinnett-based company I could find info on charges $2.20 for a flag pull and then $1.10 for each 1/2 mile -- your trip to North Fulton Hospital would be 15 miles, so you'd be looking at approximately $35 plus tip to get there. I assume you'd also need to get back, so round trip would be roughly double that. A large number of the companies in Gwinnett are focused on serving the Hispanic immigrant community, so speaking Spanish would be a plus if you go that route.
You don't say where you're coming from, but I assume that since you mentioned the Greyhound station it's out of the area. If that's the case, and you have the option, you might consider arriving at the downtown Atlanta station, or the Atlanta airport station if coming from the south. Either of these would give you ready access to the MARTA rail system, which would take you as far as the North Springs MARTA station, where you could catch the 185 Windward Park/Ride bus which would drop you off at the hospital. Fare would be $1.75 each way; train from Peachtree Center station to North Springs would be about 25 minutes or so, and the bus ride would be about 20 minutes.
If Norcross Greyhound station is the only option, then taking Gwinnett County Transit into Atlanta, transferring to MARTA, then taking the train and bus as above might work. The challenge there is that the GCT 102 bus inbound to Atlanta from the Indian Trail Park and Ride lot (about a half mile from the Greyhound station) only run five times between 6 am and 8 am, on the half hours. Unless your Greyhound bus arrives early in the morning, that probably wouldn't work. Fare is $3 and includes a transfer to MARTA. You'd take the bus to Peachtree Center station in downtown Atlanta, transfer to the MARTA train and take it out to North Springs, then the 185 bus to the hospital -- be sure to check with the bus drivers as you board to make sure you have the right transfers.

This is good advice.
If you are already staying somewhere in/around Norcross you could get a cab to the Doraville station or maybe you need to go to Lindbergh to switch to the Northbound lines. If you aren't familiar with Atlanta and it doesn't sound like you are --this will be much easier than the other options.
I think I would allow 2hrs for this trip, prior to the interview time. Sometimes you have to wait for trains and buses and it is a good distance away.

Back to my original question:
What's traffic like on Roswell Road around Riverside and up through Roswell (the part where they've got two lanes that switch direction) around Rush Hour? Is it a better option than 400?
Just trying to gauge timing from Historic Roswell to Northside Hospital.

Sweettea1,
I am from California so I might not be the right person to give you information about traffic as others have different perception about traffic than I. But to me there isn't any traffic. Roswell is truly one of the best places to live so I don't think you should have a problem if there is a little bit of traffic and Roswell is near to everything. The two lane traffic area is a great commute and I think better than 400 at times. The two lane situation can be a little dangerous as some people often don't pay attention to the lanes. 400 is really quick too, you rarely will experience traffic.
Hopes this helps.
