Flying Biscuit on Moreland and Highland Bakery off of Highland spring to mind. Both are excellent choices and highly congested during brunch.

Flying Biscuit is on McLendon, not Moreland. It's probably the best bet for a family friendly place near Little 5. It's in Candler Park, one mile from Little Five Points.

Little 5 Points / Inman Park / East Atlanta, Atlanta, GA Restaurants
Many of the places that serve brunch listed above don't seem to be family friendly.
Babette's might be an option and in the midtown shopping center with Trader Joe's there is Carpe Diem that also serves brunch.

Flying Biscuit is undoubtedly some of the best breakfast in Atlanta. The McLendon Avenue location is really laid back and it's nice to be able to get a cup of coffee at the bakery while you wait at the table. They truly have the best grits and their "breakfast pasta" plate is the bomb.
Thumb's Up is my favorite place for brunch in Atlanta and has become extremely popular in the 7 years that it has been open. You should really check it out. It's located on the corner of Edgewood and Randolph about 1 mile east of L5P.
Carroll Street Cafe in Cabbagetown is a cool little spot across from the Fulton Cotton Mill Lofts on Carroll Street that serves a good breakfast and rarely has a waiting list. The food there is not as conventional with items on the menu such as Italian sausage omelets and crab cakes benedict, but still great nonetheless. BTW, it's owned by the same guy who owns Apres Diem in Midtown.
The Parish on Highland Avenue in Inman Park Village is really good and convenient if you go to the deli downstairs in back. They make gourmet pastries, have a full service coffee bar, and the deli serves everything from bacon, eggs, and a biscuit, to crepes and breakfast wraps. It's a great laid back spot with a lot of character.
Last but not least, Java Jive on Ponce is very underated, but attracts a huge crowd. Just like Thumb's Up, you gotta get there early.

Ditto for Thumbs Up - but go early as it gets very busy!
The Porter has opened in Little Five Points. Even though it's a gastro-pub, it is very kid friendly. http://www.theporterbeerbar.com/here!

Also, Murphy's Restaurant in Virginia-Highlands is a good brunch spot.

Front Page News is at 351 Moreland Ave. serves brunch on that great patio. Mangrove Alley (in the old Bridgetown Grill on Euclid), Brewhouse Cafe at the corner of Moreland and McLendon, and Vortex on Moreland all serve brunch. Sabroso (Spanish) and Miro's (Tapas Bar) and Sweet Lime (Sushi) - I've heard they are all good.
