What about the the schools ITP. I am considering Atlanta as a relocation destination and like the idea of being intown, but I have kids and want good, safe public schools, including high school.
Is this doable intown?

The City of Decatur has an excellent school system.

Of course there are many more. ITP is not a barren waste land for families that would utilize the public school systems.

Look into these ITP areas...(I will list the high schools and sometimes the corresponding area...each high school will have good middle schools and elementary schools that feed into it):

Grady High
North Atlanta High
Riverwood High (ITP Sandy Springs)
Campbell High (Vinings)
Decatur High
Druid Hills High
Lakeside High
Chamblee High

This was quick and short. I hope it helps though. Let posters know if you need/want more detailed information...

I get that.

Biggest bunch of nonsense I've ever seen.

Yes. New York area code 212. You aren't a "real" New Yorker unless your number is in that area code.

It's just snobbery, plain and simple.

It depends what people want but I for one Love living in the city, love that everything is close, love that there is always something happening even if I am not doing anything, love the diversity of people and events, love taking Marta to work and not being stuck in the car hours each day. The places I like to frequent are not in the suburbs (ie..local restaurants, shops, parks etc) so whether its as a couple or a family I like the city.

For me it fits but I will always take a lessor house for location, for many others the house is more important. For me its also my neighborhood, experiences and time saved by not driving across town constantly.
