There's a few bars scattered at hudson bridge, stockbridge, the exits of mcdonough and tanger outlet. As young and single -- you'll likely want to hit downtown for a more contemporary culture and music/bar scene. You might get a few laughs from the local dives in the south if you're bored.
Crime is starting to migrate from a well talked county near Henry, but house invasions and murders in Henry isn't regular like a few other locations.

It depends on what part of Stockbridge. I have lived in Stockbridge that is considered Clayton County, and have lived near/regularly travelled to the Stockbridge that is in Henry. Clayton County Stockbridge is a decent shopping area, but crime is definitely increasing and the area is more run-down in general. Other parts of Stockbridge, though, are much nicer but traffic is horrible.

Funny, I relocated from Stockbridge to Minneapolis 5 years ago. Totally different, you won't find the happy hour filled bar scene like in Minneapolis. After work, most folks head home. Sports bars are just that ~ big games draw big crowds. But with all the big screens, you just might be invited to someone's house. Hey, the drinks are free and you can stop at the grocery store and buy something to take to the party. Prepare yourself for the complete opposite of MN nice. What you will find is genuine people that are genuinely interested in knowing you. The walls don't come up after a month of them being super friendly. You'll be invited to dinner, cookouts in the summer, lots of "get togethers" to eat, watch movies and just kick it. I miss that! You'll have a blast once you start meeting people. As for Stockbridge, sorry to tell you, there is nothing to do down there. Recommendations to eat (may require some driving) ~ Carrabba's in Jonesboro, lots of places right around there, Corner Bakery (if it's still around) Perimeter Mall has some nice eatieries. Gladys and Ron chicken and waffles ~ wayyyy over in Lithonia but since you are in Stockbridge, you can hit the back roads. Eating out is usually reserved for weekends in the south too. And since everybody lives so spread out, it's hard to plan eating out. Hope you find some new friends soon and enjoy the south. It's not as dirty as the song says rolleyes: Just explore ATL and you will be just fine.

Stockbridge isn't that bad, I think given your circumstances to go to Jackson, you probably chose OK overall.
Traffic does suck, but where in the Atlanta's suburbs does it *not.* ? - the traffic is frustrating almost everywhere. Stockbridge is very convenient to I-75, so zipping on the interstate to go places is easy most of the time.
Some people I know there complain that the crime is up some, but it is not scary to be around there. Just be cautious as you would anywhere. I have some family in that area and I go there on a regular basis. Shopping is convenient, and there are a few good restaurants, but it is a bedroom community. If you want night life, head into the big city. Years ago Stockbridge was a rural town that is now pretty well built out and full of transplants. You might meet some people easily depending on your interests.
If you like Italian, Pasta Max is the best restaurant of its type in that entire area of Stockbridge. I think the chef was trained up in NY or something. It is in a hotel right next to I-75 on Hwy 138. I think the hotel changed its name, so I forgot what it is called now, but it is literally a stone's throw from I-75.

I am also from minneapolis, and have lived in atlanta, and riverdale, stockbridge by far has been my best choice! i love it here and plan to open my own business here. no matter how bored you get just keep in mind it's not -50 degrees (-70 with the windchill factor) and you'll never have to shovel again! LOL
