Thank you so much. I posted a reply to the original message as well and it seems as if peope were ok saying "we don't want to be around Blacks...let's keep things lilly white." I am from Nashville (one of the suggested places for him to move) and believe you me you will not be in Nashville proper if that is what you are looking for! Again...not trying to be rude but you will need a farm in the country for that. I think your post was right on the money in stateing that most of the people who found this offense were offended by the way it was written. My mother always taught me "it's not what you say but HOW you say it."

Hello. I replied to original message in different places on here. The subject line just made me stop and I had to read on. In my messages I stated what others have said and you have addressed. As and educated Black female from Nashville that is new to Atlanta I think I can address almost everything that has been stated. First I don't believe in sugar coating but my mother always told me "it's not what you say but HOW you say it." That is what caused such an uproar (hate to state the obvious). Then as other have said we (Black people that like nice things, etc.) don't want to be around certain things. Hell I'd go as far to say PEOPLE in general.
Now to help: I have only lived here 1 year (I literally still have stuff in my fiance's car because we got the last of our stuff tonight) and have worked in Midtown and Alpharetta. I just moved from Stone mountain becasue I did not like mentality of the people that lived in my neighborhood (wasn't that put nicely ) and I hated that all of the shops were closed except for the liquor stores (called package stores here), fast food places, and gas stations. I knew that I wanted an area where people didn't throw trash out of their window onto the ground when they were next to a dumpster. Long story short, I moved to Sandy Springs. I think that we (and you) will be happy here. I can say that it seems that the further north you go the more "foo foo" things are. I LIKE FOO FOO. I'm not putting down Stone Mountain, it just happen to be the part I was in. As I said earlier drive around to see what you like or contact a real estate agent.
I hope that I could be of relocation, cultural, and posting help. Much love *smooches*
PS: As a woman I know we can be more picky than you all are about our surroundings (no offense guys...love ya) so take wifey around. She will probably be able to give you LOTS (more than you might want) of input

I am Black, live in Sandy Springs, and work in Alpharetta. HIP HOP IS EVERYWHERE! Hell one of the girls who works front desk at my spa showed me a picture of purple cush (I had only heard of it in music) and had some rap song on her phone that my jaw drop. She did all of this as she told me about how she dropped $400 in the Coach store that she works at.

Um ... not sure how to tell you this ... but that's pretty much bigotry right there in a nutshell. It doesn't make you a card-carrying member of the KKK, but anyone who wants to be around our own kind .. your words, not mine, is pretty well about 8 steps of 10 toward full-blown bigotry. The more you try to defend yourself, the more YOUR true colors are showing.
BTW, I am a white male.

Most Blacks also want to be around their own kind. There are many Blacks here on City-Data who when they move to a new city start threads asking people which part of town do most of the local Black population live in because that is most likely the neighborhood they are going to move to. So you might as well consider them to be full blown bigots as well for not wanting to live in areas that are not majority Black.

A certain percentage of them probably are. Minority populations are certainly not immune from such things...

There are different considerations for Blacks, however (although I will not excuse bigotry). Sometimes you need to live in a substantially Black area just to be able to get your hair cut or done.

White people can't cut black hair?
My local Great Clips is in a predominately White area and they seem to only hire Black employees, yet, they know how to cut White hair. Why would White stylists not be able to cut Black hair?

There is little to no training in most beauty schools for maintaining black hair. Especially black hair that has not been chemically straightened. I can't imagine that there's a white stylist in this entire state who knows how to maintain dreadlocks, for instance, which is how I wear my hair. This is why you see so many posts on this board from black folks seeking hairstylists.
Black hairstylists generally learn it through OTJT. Very few white hairstylists know anything about black hair care, and most can't be bothered to learn. One of the first things a black person has to do when they move to a new town is find a black hairstylist. I thought for a minute I would have to go to South Dekalb to find my son a barber. Fortunately there's one in Winter's Chapel who is black, but I think he's more or less the only one in this area, and he actually lives in South Dekalb.

So only black people can learn to care for black hair? That's funny.
