lagrange is nice but I have some friends who live there who have told me that if you're a smart, worldy person your only choice pretty much is to leave Lagrange after college

Well, I did the same and left after high school but have many classmates that have stayed and made a very nice living. Have to say that I am kind of envious of them now. You always have teens that think their town is the dumps and the grass is always greener elsewhere no matter where you are. True appreciation of home usually requires some years under the belt and a knowledge that other places have their plusses and minuses just like home.

You could google and find the website for Troup County Schools. The local paper is entitled The LaGrange Daily News, I have seen their website as well.

This thread is a JOKE!!! LaGrange if my hometown and I grew up there. Crime is basically non-existent.. There is never more than 1 or 2 murders a year, and that's in a bad year. There really is no just "bad" part of town, but there are 2 small areas surrounding 2 housing projects that are kind of iffy sometimes.. But even with the projects in lagrange its not like it is in a big city, its mostly older people and hardly any crime even there.
The city is definitely experiencing a boom form the KIA plant going up down there though. If you're looking for a good area for apartments id suggest the Hogansville rd area where they have Sunridge apartments which are practically new and they just built another complex next to it set to open this month. The only crime you'll are there is small domestic stuff but the city is quiet as hell most of the time.
Also check out the country club rd area, and there is a brand new housing complex going up off of highway 29 near the mall where they're putting up the new publix shopping center. lol trust me, in lagrange crime will be the LAST thing you have to worry about. Now if you're used to living in the city.... the boredom will be a killer. There is practically no nightlife, like 1 or 2 bars... I mean they JUST got applebees and longhorn like a year ago lol

LaGrange is a great town
I made a similar post on another thread, so I'll just repeat myself here. I live in Atlanta and have a second home on West Point Lake (although originally I am from Manhattan). Crime is the LAST thing on my mind in LaGrange. I have found that the people there are nice, welcoming and have a great outlook on life. I read the local paper online regularly and usually only see petty crime...rarely anything that raises eyebrows.
My neighbors know my house is empty a lot and they keep an eye on it, call me to let me know all is well, etc. I never asked them to do that, but like everyone else I have met there...they are just nice people. I get on that incredible lake and I add 10 years to my life. Personally, I think the corps has done a great job maintaining the lake's natural beauty. There is no construction allowed right up on the lake...so when you're on a boat, it looks like your only neighbors are the herons and the eagles.
I am surprised at how much growth the area is experiencing. While I know KIA has a lot to do with it, I know local government has played a big role, too. There are just too many signs of smart growth: a strong arts and culture scene...great local restaurants around the town square, a solid small college...
Overall, I love it. On the negative, things are slow and it definitely is a big difference from larger cities. Don't expect the speed or action of a larger town like Atlanta. I can't speak to the nightlife, because I just go there to get away from it all. On the positive, Atlanta is about an hour away, so a day trip is definitely doable. I go to LaGrange for day trips all the time. It's a low stress ride down 85.
BTW, Iry, I noticed you are from Stamford...I lived in Stamford, too...off of Newfield and Turner Road.

My parents are still there. Its really like one of those mayberry type towns where everyone knows each other. But it is true that most people head for the hills after high school. Im curious what company your husband will work for there.

I take it that he's going to college at LaGrange College.
I'd recommend Sun Ridge Apartments. It's probably the best in LaGrange.
