Can I ask why Duluth? Marta doesn't extend to Gwinnett County but there is a local transit service. Most of their routes are commuter routes to Atlanta but there are a few local routes.

and for a local route map:

Yes, MARTA is only within Dekalb and Fulton county. There is limited service within Gwinnett. There is one route from Gwinnett place mall to Doraville train station. There is express bus service which just started last year at Discover Milll mall.

Maybe find an apartment around Dunwoody and your husband can do reverse commute to work at Duluth. There probably better option at Dunwoody since there is train station there.

I thought OP is looking for apartment. Dunwoody such as Post Dunwoody costs about the same as apartments in Duluth. Most apartments started 800 for one bedroom, 1000 for two bedrooms.

If OP looks for buying a house, Duluth is definitely cheaper. The city of Duluth itself is pretty nice since it mostly consisted of home associations. You can find existing homes starting 250s. There are two parks within Duluth that's popular with kids. One is Howell Park and another is Bunten Park. Duluth baseball leagues and football leagues use those parks extensively. Google duluth youth league.

The public transportation within Duluth is very limited. There are a couple of routes from Gwinnett place mall to MARTA but don't expect much (check xxman's link). Duluth is still pretty much car place.

Just found the following link. Check it out.

You are better of living in Dunwoody than in Duluth especially if you will rely on public transport to begin with the dunwoody area has alot of Marta stops that you can walk to as well as nice apartments around transit. Schools are great and the reant is not half as bad.

Dunwoody is in Fulton and Dekalb counties. Dunwoody is quite upscale compared to Duluth, and not cheap to live in. Schools in Dunwoody are good, but a lot of people put their kids in private schools. Dunwoody has a large Jewish community, but mostly white, with some Asian mix. A new home in Dunwoody could start around $700k easily. You said you were looking for an apartment though, and you are looking at least $1000k + for a two bedroom.

You could get a two bedroom for cheaper than that in Duluth for sure. Duluth is more of a racially diverse community with neighboring areas Lawrenceville and Suwanee. Anybody from any culture would feel comfortable there. There are plenty of foreign owned businesses, mixed couples, and nationalities like white, black, romanian, latino, asian, indian, and so on. You could get into a new home for $250k easily, in a good neighborhood with decent schools. It's about 30 minutes from Atlanta, up 85N, but the traffic on that side of town is horrific! Not like all of Atlanta and surrounding areas is not crazy, but Gwinnett County is known for it's traffic. If you chose an apartment community in Duluth, stay away from the Pleasant Hill Rd. area, it's very saturated and congested.

Don't let yourself get confused about whether you should move to Duluth, it's not a bad decision, but Dunwoody can be an option if you have the money to spend. The previous poster was right, there is a train station right in Dunwoody, if you want to get to the city and avoid the traffic. Public transportation in Duluth is limited, but available if you work right there in Gwinnett County. Trying to get to Atlanta from there may be a little more of a challenge. Good Luck!
