After reading this post I don't think you should be talking down on anybody to tell you the truth.

Really? So how many years have you lived in East Point? I bet you hang out here all the time.
Come on...it's not uncommon for people to opine about places such as East Point based on a perception they've picked up from watching the news or through hearsay from northside Atlantans who are too good or too scared to venture south of I-20.

90% of East Point is inside the Perimeter...Atlanta and East Point share a lengthy border.
What part of Atlanta do you call home? I'm just wondering, because you're bad-mouthing the part of Atlanta I call home - and obviously without any actual or specific information.

And you should let Decaon take you on a tour of College Park and East Point sometime. I agree with him that the historic neighborhoods in those cities have made a remarkable comeback.

It wouldn't do any good...some people just want to spout off about things they aren't really familiar with, but don't care to be enlightened.

Deacon, listen, I simply do not think that East Point matches what I would like in a community. It's not exactly clean. It's somewhat run-down in areas. It's not as bad as it was ten years ago, but it still misses the mark.
I've ventured below I-20 numerous times. I've lived in metro Atlanta my entire life, and I'm in my 30s, so please, you could spare me the "based on perception through hearsay" nonsense.

I'm aware that majority of East Point is inside the Perimeter, but a small percentage of it is outside the Perimeter. Furthermore, the area outside the Perimeter is actually nicer than the area inside the Perimeter.
I'm not bad-mouthing the part of Atlanta you call home. If you enjoy it, then that is all that matters. It's simply not my cup of tea.
I've lived all over Atlanta, in a variety of locations, from Douglasville to Austell to Newnan to Conyers to Marietta to Duluth. I'm currently living in East Cobb.

Well, at the end of the day it is your opinion, CF, and you are entitled. Now that I know where you live, I better understand your criteria for an ideal community.

okay so
Well, you guys have me a bit worried now. I moved down to Atlanta from Indiana. We stayed in Woodstock for about a month while we were looking for a place. Roswell is really nice and looks good but I find the people in that area a bit standoffish and I found Acworth to be okay. Woodstock...its okay as far as the houses but I didn't really feel comfortable there.
I do not know much of the actual city of Atlanta. I think that most of these areas that people have been bashing have some good and bad. I was thoroughly warned by a guy I was seeing before I moved here that I should stay in the northern suburbs..i.e. Roswell, Woodstock and areas surrounding. But I see why now. From what I can gather, a lot of people here just go by what they see on the tele and their perceptions are not based on actual facts or experience.
We found a house in a nice part of Jonesboro and I actually like it. There is a big Lake by our house and a very nice park nearby for my small son to play. So I am kind of confused as to why people see Clayton County as so bad. I can see that when you first come off of 75 it looks a bit industrial but once you drive down a bit, it seems to get better. Granted we have only been in the area for about a week but so far it hasn't been bad. I will give the area a year and if its bad we will move but I just think that some of the reasonings for what makes an area bad or not that have been given in this post don't really hold alot of water.

Of course, everyone is entitled to his or her opinion...no matter how misinformed it may be. Some people will continue to hold an outdated or biased opinion based on incorrect information, no matter what anyone says or does. It's sad.
