I'm not racist, I just have a question:
Hi all, I consider myself an open minded and non judgmental person but I can also be realistic. The black population in Henry county has increased trememdously in this decade. I have no problem with that, but we all know about what has happened to Clayton county over the past few years. My question is, is Henry going downhill or is the influx of minorities enhancing the quality of life there? And before you label me a racist, I am aware that black people alone didn't bring Clayton down, it was bad planning, corrupt politicians and atlanta dumping public housing residents, among other things. I would just like to know if Henry will stay a nice area.

I think it is going downhill. Crime has shot up recently. Dont forget that Clayton was similar to Henry 30 or so years ago, and look how bad it has gotten. I think the mistake was allowing cheap housing to go in. Henry could be doing the same, not too mention how close it is to Clayton, which is too close if you ask me.

I have searched the internet and can find no evidence that crime has "shot up" in Henry County. We could assume that the county will decline because it shares a border with Clayton County - which isn't ALL bad across the board...only in certain areas - or we could know what we're talking about before we make such statements. I've only been to Henry County once, and it wasn't recently, so I can't comment on its current status.
Any area, city, or county can take a dive at any time...it doesn't have to be adjacent to an area perceived as a "bad" area. I also don't think you're a racist because you asked this question...but you're right in saying that black folks aren't the problem - it's bad people, poor people, criminals, trashy people, etc. of all colors that cause the decline of an area.

FAYETTE / HENRY COUNTIES: Usually quiet community sees increase of violent crime in '07 | ajc.com
You obviously did not look hard enough. I do not just pull stuff out of thin air. I know what I am talking about, and I predict Henry will continue to decline. Fayette will survive - only because it has Peachtree City. You can sugarcoat it all you want, but 323 violent crimes is a lot for sleepy Henry County. How many do you think Forsyth, or Coweta, has?
By the way, if you don't think Clayton County or Five Points are bad areas, then what do you consider bad? It seems you have no standards whatsoever.

I think we're going to see a broad downswing everywhere as the economy continues to crumble.

It seems you're afraid of your own shadow...so now you are an expert on Henry County too? How many times have you BEEN to Henry County? No matter what your answer, I guarantee it's ZERO.
Here is the article that "proves" your point...it doesn't say much of anything other than the number of violent crimes - 2 murders, 11 rapes for a county of 200,000 people. I don't know what the situation is there, but I'm not going to spout off about it being in decline just because I think it could be. You tend to jump the gun on crime and danger when you really don't know...especially if the area isn't on your precious north side of town. Judgement like that is very ugly...and a tad crazy. By the way, check out the number of meth labs in Forsyth and Cherokee Counties. Do you think those areas are in decline?
Quote:
According to figures released Monday, the county saw a noticeable increase in the number of violent crimes from 2006 to 2007. In 2006, there were 27 violent crimes in Fayette. Of those 17 were aggravated assaults and 10 were robberies. There were two murders in the county in 2007 after none were recorded the year before.
Henry County authorities recorded 323 violent crimes in 2007, including 176 cases of aggravated assault, 134 robberies, 11 rapes and two cases of murder or non-negligent manslaughter.
