My mother and I are looking for properties in Fulton and Gwinnett county currently so we can move to Georgia and start a child care business based out of our home for starters. Does anyone know any areas that are currently in need of child care businesses and what are the rates that are being charged currently in those areas. Also, I have been reading about what ATL has to offer and the pros and cons of living there from different responses listed here in this forum.....it seems as if some areas are consist of people who have not accepted black people into there life and are openly racist. I have a younger sister and I dont want to move to an area like that. Can someone tell me a good area in gwinnett county or surrounding areas which is diverse and where you can live comfortably. We are looking for homes in the 200000.00-250000.00 range. I would love to move into a black area but not somewhere with lots of crime....maybe around blacks who are educated and sophiscated like my family and I. Any suggestions?

Most metro areas have rules against home based businesses that bring customers to the house-- even day care centers. So, while I am not able to advise you specifically, you will need to understand the rules and regulations and zoning requirements to operate such as business in each of the counties you mentioned and as you look at properties, you need to make sure that they are zoned for such things.

Do not count on getting the county commission or city council to grant a waiver for such a business -- you can count on your neighbors fighting it though.

You may find success in the more rural parts of Fulton (primarily S. Fulton) and Gwinnett, but I am really not sure.

I've seen alot of home based Child-Care Centers in homes various neighborhhods in SW Atlanta off of Abernathy Road & Cambellton Road. They were in traditional type homes but obviously obtained zoning for child-care purposes. This is in Fulton County and I'm sure if you go through the proper-channels you could do the same as long as you have the community support and a solid business plan to present to the neighborhood to garner their support. It all starts with the NPU (Neighborhood Planning Unit) if you are doing business in the City of Atlanta.
