Default Gwinnett's Pleasant Hill Road has a crime problem???

I used to visit a freind that lived in that area in the 90's and was shocked to read about all of the crime thats going on there now. There have been four homicides in the last six months but this is apparently an improvement over recent years.

I hadn't been to that area in some time, and was there about a year and a half ago. It was shocking to see the decay that the area has experienced. Most of the businesses that were peripheral to the mall had been boarded up.

We went to Kohl's there last week and then ate near the mall. It really has gone down hill over the years. Not the worst part of town, but I don't really like being around that area much.

I knew the area had declined somewhat but I had no idea about that crime was an issue.

I think the decline is primarily due to the newer wave of sprawl thats a little farther out is cannibalizing its retail market.

Bingo! That is exactly what is going on there. As the Koreans move in on a larger scale, I really think the whole Gwinnett Place area will improve greatly.

One of the main issues is the number of apartments in that area, especially on Satellite and down off of Club Drive. That area was already going downhill when I moved here in 2000, with the decline really starting after the shooting at TGIFriday's a few years ago.

I think it could improve too...if the planners/politicians think right, I think the Gwinnett Place area could become/be re-made into a "Korean/Asian Stonecrest."

There are so many possibilities. Think about all of the Koreans/Asians in Duluth/Johns Creek.

I hope it works out. There is no reason for the Gwinnett Place Area to go downhill. The Stonecrest Area (Korean-style!) should be their model.

You are dead-on about the surge of apartment complexes a couple of decades ago being the beginning of the end of Gwinnett Place. It's one of the key motivations in the new city of Dunwoody taking control of its' destiny. DeKalb County was rubberstamping permits for apartment construction, and local residents saw the writing on the wall.

This is why I think incorporation needs to happen all over the metro area...

but after Atlanta city proper expands its boundaries, of course.

DeKalb needs to be completely incorporated...it sucks at nearly everything.
