Trying to Find Balance in Atlanta
Hello World!
My name is Dale, I have been in Atlanta, going on 1 year (StockBridge now). I have to admit, I totally am disgusted with the place; however, I am trying to find some reasons for staying.
So here goes:
I found love here in Atlanta, and unfortunately, for me, the new wife does not want to leave the area. I was trying to go back to Minneapolis or California but that is not gonna happen no time soon. So I figure I might as well make the best of the Atlanta area, because we got a stork visit, and I will be here for a while.
My question is:
Is there a such thing, as a young to middle aged family suburb in Atlanta, with a touch of diversity? Or do I need to leave the drugs alone. Am I asking for too much? I have stayed in areas like this in other cities, and I just want to find the same for me and my family here.
Any suggestions or comments, are appreciated thank you all.

Hmm, Sorry to hear about you not liking it, and congrats on the good news (Stork visit). I'd start with finding locals that may share similar interests, hobbies, networking, etc (Are you into sports, cars, motorcycles, biking, hiking, animals, collecting (anything), poetry, community service or anything? ). Do you have family or friends in the area? It's a major sacrifice, dont despair. Glad to know that at least one of you likes it . Give it some time. A year is not enough to give any place a chance. Try to duke it out for the time being.

Hey Ny,
Thanks for the reply. I have done those things here, and they are ok. I just do not like the conservative political climate here, I prefer more liberal, progressive areas. I am a Christian and all, but Atlanta, has too much heaven for me. Those two areas will be my biggest adjustment.
Hopefully, I will get to like the place in time. Have you found any neighborhoods like the one I mentioned? I am from Florida, (Lake City/Jacksonville), and I was surprised at how more diverse our suburbs where. I guess it is nothing like home.

Um - well, I think you answered the "why you're disgusted" question.

I actually like StockBridge better than Atlanta, I used to stay in the city before moving out here. Fulton county has horrible services for the taxes and headaches.
Thanks for the tip.

So are you sure that GA is what you don't like?
Sounds to me that you are being forced to grow up and really don't want the chores of being married or having children.
It is a chore to you, right?
Nothing and no place suggested is going to make you happy. Rearrange your priorities to fit someone else besides yourself and your monster ego into your daily routine.
Maybe then you'll learn to love whatever wife you're with, whether that happens to be the new one, the old one or the now one.
Maybe see that the stork visit takes over any ideals that you may have had for yourself because you are now making all your plans for your child.
Maybe you'll learn that you can never have to much heaven. Considering heaven...
Yep, I'd say no other place gets anymore liberal or progressive. It will allow anyone in. How much more liberal or progressive than that could you possibly want!

Diversity is overrated. Come down here to Orlando for a visit, where nobody knows what the hell eachother are saying... if it aint spanish, its portuguese, or something else. It's real fun.

Give yourself a bit more time and be patient with yourself and your loved ones ... 1 year of time (at your age) isn't really that much of a sacrifice. I've been here almost 18 years and still miss my home State of California. Pretty much common feeling amongst many and some not! Best 2 u ...
